I hope you find this interesting.

Well, I've been working a lot on birds (as you may have noticed) and was pretty pleased with this one but then I started to fret about the blown-out patches of snow and well...
-
We've got more snow on the way, too, but fortunately it hasn't been bitchin' cold (yet). I really enjoyed my recent visit to your portfolio--you've been taking off in a slightly different direction and the results are really nice.
-
Nor do I, Jack. As with so many other of your photographs, I'm overcome with a sense of calm clarity.
-
Thanks so much, Fernando!
-
Thanks for the coments! I'd never run across anything like it either--perhaps because I'd never looked carefully before. That's one of the joys of photography for me: it makes (or lets or helps) me see things I might otherwise overlook.
-
I hope you find this interesting.
-
Great to hear from you, David! You haven't convinced me on the dof issue but I'm very glad you like it
-
A heroic pose, don't you think? I hope I can do better (better resolution) but this is my best yet with my 400mm.
-
Thanks for the comment, Jack ;~) I only wish I'd stopped down a bit more for more dof.
-
Thanks for the comments! I was just delighted to discover some of these guys at my daughter's school and come away with this--the more so since I'd never even *seen* a Bluebird until 2008. I'd like to have gotten closer and captured more detail--maybe next time.
-
Thanks, Shawn. There'll be no more this year--the gardener finally cleaned out the bed. I realized that I have three shots of these three flowers which might make an interesting set.
-
Thanks for the comment and apologies for the delay in responding. Of course, you're very on target with my intention (if such it may be called) here. The earthy foreground is a important element but I take your point about the loss of detail. Thanks for viewing!

Comments Welcomed.

Thanks, Ruud! I keep thinking, "Now I'm done with those zinnias." but I keep going back.
-
Thanks, Shawn! My friend, Dennis, and I took a bit of a hike the other day. It was late in the day, though, and I had low hopes of capturing the feel of the late autumn woods so I was rather pleased with this. For a combination of reasons, the focus is a bit softer than I'd like though--suffice it to say I wish I'd had a tripod with me.
-
Thanks Ruud--I thought I was done with Zinnia photos but...
-
Wonderful that you saw this, Fred, and I really appreciated your comments. I was fortunate not only in the light but in the subject: a wonderfully interesting and expressive face and, with a background in dance performance, a willingness to forgo vanity for art.
-
Thanks--nice to hear from you both!
-
Comments welcomed.

Thanks Shawn! It was a unique opportunity--a great subject (my sister) and an amazing lighting situation (at brunch in a local restaurant.) I think I see Fred Goldsmith's influence in terms of treatment.
-
Thanks, Shawn--that little close-focusing 24mm Sigma is really fun!
-
Thanks Ruud! This was taken from the passenger's seat of my friends' car. His dog was keeping a sharp eye on traffic ;~)
-
Thanks, Ruud--I can't get out the front door without being tempted to take a photo. It's a wonder I get any where! :~)
