1.
That's it--I'm switching to an Acme camera system. Their boxes are to die for!

 2.

last drop of cholula

Oh, dear! I like that stuff

 3.
I took my Sigma 18-35/1.8 for a walk last week I wasn't expecting much--it was a gloomy day so I figured it was more a walk in the woods than a shooting session but I ended up seriously impressed by that lens.

 4.

I've been in Pentax hiatus since the K20D

My goodness that certainly bespeaks a surfeit of willpower! ;~) I loved my K20D but the K-5IIs & K-3 are major advancements. I'm skeptical about pixel-shifting myself since it seem it seems to require a totally static subject and totally static camera--fine for some applications, certainly but not my cuppa.

 5.
Well, of course, there is no DSLR which works natively with M42 lenses. But the question hammered home to me how severely advances in sensor technology render vintage DSLRs obsolete. Back in the day, you could take advantage of the latest & greatest film technology with your father's hand-me-down SLR body.

 6.
I'm so glad I can shoot from the comfort of my living room during this crappy weather!

 7.
We've ducked most of the big storms here in Baltimore but it's still too cold for me so I've got the F*600/4 set up in the living room and have been shooting birds through the window.

These female cardinals are just gorgeous in soft light!

 8.
The Tamron SP Tele-Macro SP 300mm f/5.6 was a great suggestion. Otherwise, my inclination would be to go with one of the older (K or M) Pentax offerings--they're at the sweet spot in terms of quality/price IMHO.

 9.
Chaircat of the Decorations Committee:

 10.
I'd been planning to make a run up to the Conowingo dam & shoot eagles but they changed the weather forecast on me again so that it would be cloudy by the time I got up there. I can't tell you how many times that's happened this Fall--I clear everything off my calendar based on the extended forecast only to be wiped out when the day comes. ARGH! I just had to get out anyway so I went down to a place closer by in the Patapsco flats that I discovered this summer. This is the best from that excursion.

 11.
All the salutations on Dad's milestone are much appreciated. I should mention that he's one of three "ageless wonder" siblings--his kid sister is 95 (and still living by herself on a mountain in Vermont) and his big sister is 104.

They (and their children :~/) are all guinea pigs being tracked by the Long Life Family Study at Columbia University. My take is that their longevity can be attributed in more or less equal proportions to lifestyle, excellent medical care throughout their lives, genetics and dumb luck.

Only one other for me: conditions were pretty awful (cloudy windy and I was shooting into what light there was) but hawks have been so scarce this year and I really respected this guy's tenacity in the wind so I just had to take a shot. I didn't come up with a wall-hanger but it sure was a good exercise in pp ;~)

 12.
Lots of nice shots, guys! The two that really jumped for me were Matt's horse and Dorus' first. Nice to see that walking stick too, Doug: I understand we have them here but they're not often seen.

Photography kind of took a back seat this week while I attended to arrangements for the celebration of my father's 100th birthday. His 95- and 104-year old sisters were in attendance. Here's the Ageless Wonder himself (with the 77 Ltd, of course ;~)

 13.
Sorry I'm late! I just got around to processing my shots from a neighborhood event last year:

 14.

Does the lens go with the house?

I'm not sure anyone could afford both at the same time ;~)

 15.

Dave, holy cow that lens is a monster!

It is--certainly not a 'walk-about' lens by any stretch but great for shooting from my porch (in the morning with the sun at my back). I'll probably take it up to Conowingo and other 'sit and wait' venues, too. I figure I'm sort of renting it--my wife thinks we should move out of this big old house in about five years (and, of course, she's probably right) and I'll sell the monster when we do but, in the meantime it's great fun! ;~)

 16.
That last one is great, Matt!

 17.
Thanks, Doug! Yeah, the F*600/4 is fantastic (although not a lens I take for long walks in the country) and I'm really pleased by how well it matches with the Tamron TC. I'm using a Manfrotto gimbal head--more of a 'brute force' solution than the elegant Wimberly but less expensive.

 18.
That looks like a lovely spot for fishing, Bob!

 19.
I got some birds off the porch yesterday morning--glad to get a Blue Jay--they're always around but it's rare to get a clear shot.

Not quite BIF but I got this Flicker in mid-hop:

And--just for fun--this is a .80MP crop (K-3 + F*600/4 + Tamron 1.4x TC)

 20.

I felt the K-3 a step backwards both menu wise and in not conveying more complicated controls as effectively.

I do like some of the advances the K-3 offers but I agree with Michael on this. I loved the K20D menu & controls.

 21.
I don't know what those insanely high ISO specs even mean but I can tell you the jump in IQ at, say, ISO 2000 between the K100D K20D (I had both) and the K-5 really knocked my socks off. Now, "usability" is a very slippery standard--so many variables--but I certainly get more usable shots (in terms of noise) with the k-5 (etc) bodies than with their predecessors.

 22.
Those are really nice, Matt! I also like Yury's second photo with the lively zombie ladies, Dorus' first Almere and Duane's daytime lower battery.
I went out exploring the Patapsco bottom lands where the river approaches its estuary. It's wild semi-swamp crossed by elevated roads. I didn't take a long lens on my first foray but hope to get back there soon.
Sigma 18-35/1.8

 23.
I'm glad you posted that last one, Matt--I saw the B&W over on PF and really felt a need for color.

 24.
Lovely shots, Bob!

I wish there were more like these....

Absolutely!
Wonderful Bear & Hummingbird, Haig! Also the old photo is special.
