the hedge was so tired of all the rectangles that it decided to grow a circle

Holger, Jack, many thanks for your comments and appreciation. @Jack: well described - it's this "don't judge a book by its cover"-thing. At first I found the car annoying (I regularly encounter cars that are about to spoil my photos - they're a plague :-)) - but then I tried to make a virtue out of necessity and integrate it - so, many thanks for pointing this out. -
[[show-photo-18428747]] Jack, many thanks for stopping by & commenting. True, we seem to see things very similar - I really enjoyed your recent photos for their ingenious visual revelations (after being again too long absent from PN)... Your proposal to crop lower part is an interesting thought and helpful trigger to reflect on my choices. My idea was to offer a path into the picture, but you are right, it competes a bit too much with the actual subject. Attached is a slightly modified version - darkening brickwork slightly, reducing detail contrast while not completely cropping it.

Modern Bag in an Antique Room
wolfgangarnold commented on hstelljes's gallery image in Black and White
Tonality and atmosphere are indeed captured really well. The scene is revolving around the bag (which is a nice visual anchorpoint with it's dark tones, yet still clear details). I wonder how (or whether at all) the photo would work, if the bag had been placed in the middle of the bright patch on the bed. -

lumière du sud Lumière du sud 5

Leslie, many thanks again for your insightful comment. The touching shadows are a key element for me. In fact, I had also considered b/w, because this photo is primarily about shadows and shapes. However, I decided to keep color for conveying a hint of the hot summer atmosphere (well, warm toning of b/w might do - but that always comes with the risk of being nostalgic - which I didn't want this photo to be about). Holger, many thanks for viewing and commenting. Well, the window... I found it like faint echo of the door (and found 'photoshopping' a too drastic measure). -

Gentlemen, many thanks - being a very occasional visitor to PN during recent times, I really appreciate your comments! Leslie, very thorough analysis - I think, you addressed every important aspect in these photos and, in fact, I didn't (consciously) notice that the viewer cannot focus both windows in the the tightly cropped version - a very interesting observation! Fred, many thanks for different square crop. Tying lines (or 'stuff') to corners or borders is a bad habit that I acquired after reading Harald Mante's "The Photograph" (which is about composition and colour - good book, but at times a bit idiosyncratic) - so your proposal is a welcome reminder to think and see beyond (own) trodden paths. Jack, Mark, many thanks for your views / votes - so it's clear, which version "won" :-)
