  1. I like the stacked lines of fences - their visual rhythm is in tune with the colour shifting from green to yellowish hues.

Jack, you dare to point your camera where most of us wouldn't even bother to throw a glance at. You are rewarded with unexpected discoveries of which we aren't aware that they exist.
  3. Usually, Cologne-Cathedral can't be missed - here, I had to search a bit... I like how the old structures (Cathedral and bridge) almost dissolve in the rectangles of the modern construction.

    New life

You're asking for comments about the composition - so, here's my view: The photo is about textures and colours: the rough and withered dead wood contrasts and thus emphasizes the fresh and young leaves. The lines of the wood form very pleasant, wavy lines which lead the eyes towards the green leaves and almost circle the them - great until here. Now, comes from my point of view the only drawback: the leaves are pushed pretty much to the right edge of the frame, which (for me) breaks the overall very harmonic composition. The situation may not have allowed it, but I'd have tried to place the leaves roughly at 2/3 (somewhere near the golden) of the frame. As a trick (you can argue whether it's a cheap one ;-)) you might try to play with a vignette and a careful dodging / brightening the leaves - the light is soft, which usually supports such postprocessing steps very well, i.e. unless you strongly overdo it, it should not jeopardize the natural and realistic appearance (which I consider a big plus in this photo).

@Holger: many thanks for giving my photo of attention - indeed, it's not supposed to be an eye catcher for a quick glance, therefore, I'm glad it caught and kept your attention for a while! @Vincent: some of the questions that I try to build into my photos are: what do we see and percieve? And what escapes our gaze and perception (and therefore our 'reality'). What attracted me here was the tension between uneven, curvy natural structers and plain man made structures. I was lucky that it was a windy day with clouds coming and going, so I could chose a moment where the shadows very still a bit vague.

    Bacchanal

Jack, the twigs seem to be absorbed in a lively dance - against the backdrop of the man-made texture of wall and key-box. I find myself very often attracted by branches or trees in front of walls - they separate the trees from their surrounding and emphasize their shapes and forms.

  9. @Bruegel Kuiseb: :-) your reference to Antelope Canyon made me laugh :-) - many thanks for all your recent comments! It's great to find some (very) old posts re-emerge.

  12. An attempt at squaring the circle? ;-) - I like the rhythm of shapes.
  13. The texture of old surfaces are a pleasing photographic subject - their decay frozen in time. With your near-abstract composition you're going beyond that surface - my eyes enjoy the recurring patterns and slight differences between each panel segment.

    working fishers

The composition is very dynamic and with all the lines guiding the eyes to the top corner it has a metaphoric quality. I also like the carefully worked out black and white tonality - simply beautiful.

Drew, many thanks for stopping by and commenting! I found these super serious loudspeakers very much at odds with the leisurely atmosphere that should be on the beach... and maybe they are the reason why the beach was so deserted ;-)

Stephanie, Michael, Vincent, Daniel: many thanks for your comments - they are music to my ears :-)
  17. Jack, many thanks for your reply - I feel truly honoured. I can imagine, that this photo may not attract many viewers from a quick glance at its thumbnail because it does not immediately reveal it's secrets - the viewer has to take a little effort to understand what's going on between all the "actors" but is rewarded with a story that goes far beyond the mere sum of the visual elements.
  18. You've waited for the right light - I love how the side light models every detail of the facade - like telling its long history and rhe warm light emphasizes the colour very pleasantly. The photo reminds me of one of my favourite vacations spend in the south of France (where I couldn't get enough of this light).

    Architectural

Wondering, what I'm seeing - a blend of fragments of perception and rather the mess my brain creates when being overloaded by the bustle of a city.
  20. Another photo from you that made me laugh - although (or because!) the poor artificial panda is so lost in this scene where nature steps aside and opens the view into the abyss of a man made world.

    Train Rising

I like when uneven reflecting surfaces are bending, distorting and re-shaping reality. It's a reminder to never fully trust our perception. Here, I like the urban look and the impression that - despite being a still photograph - everything is about move, dissolve and re-organize an a new way.
