    Crosswalk

Awesome. I'd second Michael's comment. One aspect, where I'm undecided about, is how much retouching (e.g. sweeping the leaves or removing that greenish mark) to apply - on one hand side, these little elements (can) distract the eye, on the other hand I've seen many contemporary fine art photos which are almost clinically clean so that they loose authenticity and their "photographic" quality.

    CHEERS BOYS

You did very well to put these two disagreeable chaps behind bars :-)
  4. In fact, although style-wise very different your photo made me think as well of Elliott Erwitt! And true: we 're often just running grimly after our next little, vain success and too often forget to laugh - or smile even...
  5. You have a fine sense of humor - with your strict composition you're opening the stage for the door handles and the sticker to play a hilarious comedy.

    Keep Smiling

Not sure, whether the lady on the poster was ever smiling - yet, for sure I know, I smiled when reading the caption :-)
  7. I love the caption - and how created tension between the crumpled blue thing and the far away background.
  8. To me a good photograph takes elements from the 'real' world, transforms, combines, merges or in any other way mashes them up and voilà from this process something new and unique emerges. You've definitely achieved this here and I'd second Michael that this photo invites meditation.

    graffiti

@Holger, Franz, Jack, Philip: many thanks for stopping by and commenting! Recently I came across the film "In no great Hurry" about Saul Leiter - which re-ignited my interest in his works.

  12. The sidelight is modeling textures of sand and wood really nicely. Moving sand and withered wood represent passing of time ... and probably one of the best things you can do is pass your time at places like theese :-)
  13. Maybe, someone just took the last tasty meals that could have been offered here... maybe these are carnivorous plants just awaiting me to arrive for their meal.

    happy trinkhalle

@Holger, @Jack: many thanks for your comments - they confirm the ideas I had with this photo: there is a connotation to current festive season in the western world (though, despite the bright shop-sign, they all but festive placess...) and: I like "playing" with our visual perception - which is result not only of the image projected to our retina, but also of quite a lot of processing happening afterwards... so: how 'real' is what we perceive? Also a Happy New Year to you!

    happy trinkhalle

In many industrial cities in western Germany you'll find these small shops. They are open long after other shops have closed and offer primarily beverages, alcoholic drinks, tobacco and snacks.

    Expired

Hilarious - I can't stop smiling... I love the smiling skeletal chap waving good bye to his poor fixed fellows who can't follow him to the party...

    Rock On

The way the elements of the composition connect and not connect implies a universe of possibilities. There are stairs and streets, blind windows, a half visible entrance, movement, resting... yet, to me the most important aspect is the subtle use of colour: his blue jeans and her red bad merge in the logo on the right and tie all the elements into a dense composition. The New York street photos of Joel Meyerowitz come to my mind...

I might develop a fear of flying while watching this photo :-)

    Bicycle Basket

I'm trapped in the bicycle basket - the strict downwards-wideangle perspective pulls me into the photo and I'm sure, Michael's guess that the yellow cables (which are nicely echoed by the yellow marks on the road) are part of some evil trap is right. Also for me a favourite!

@Jack: many thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'm careful with promises, but I guess, I should drop by again more frequently on PN.
  23. In our digital age such old crafts are becoming a rare gift. While I'd love to see their faces and gazes fixed on the hammer and anvil, the moment and their gestures are cpatured nicely - I can step in the boys shoes and admire the blacksmith.

Hi Holger, many thanks for your comment - been away from PN for some time - it's great to get an encouraging comment shortly after upload!
