    Sunset

Fully agree to 'almost surgical work' - I have a predilection for strict geometries and reflections (or other means of showing things indirectly). The 1/4-closed shades are the key element here: they are the "almost" that adds just the right amount of 'dust' to the surgical cleanliness that makes this an interesting composition - and that metaphorically echoes the setting sun.

    Artistry

The caption made me smile - probably I look equally clumsy when I try such daring feats... I like that you included the decoration in the background - which is in a way the idealisation of our vain attempts on this slippery surface...

    Sonoran Lights 1

A very dynamic abstract photo and an interesting visual challenge as obviously several movements (I assume of camera and lights) are involved. Cool.

Patrick, Holger, Jack, Michael L, Daniel, Michael N.: I really enjoyed reading all your comments and thoughts! My initial idea was rather simply about how street lamps and the lights of passing cars transform this insignificant place - in reality it is so 'un-sci-fi' that my small brain did not consider any such associations at all... Yet, your comments taught something me about my little photo. And, they reminded me that time is inherently present in every photograph - maybe still photography is the only medium that is capable of creating a credible mapping of time and our three spatial dimension into a bounded space of two dimensions.

  8. The half-hidden cyclist is well placed and framed nicely by the four trees. I also like the very subtle hint of autumn colours. The dark lower part - almost half of the photo - could be debatable (too "heavy"?) - but to me it's a solid foundation that counters lightheartedly top very well.

    THE WAIT

The colourkey suits here as it increases tension between the two men in the photo. And I keep wondering why the guy with the umbrella is standing still and showing no sign of moving out of the rain.
  10. Many thanks for your reply - it would be an honor to me to appear in your unfinished work - your photo inspired my comment :-)
  11. In the galactic chaos of our world every now and then islands of order and beauty emerge - usually they disappear unnoticed, unless you come along and snatch them out of the merciless stream of time.

A tribute to @Jack McRtichie: your Roadside Abstract (/photo/18520704) reminded me of this photo that slept in repository...

    Boxed In

Franz Kafka comes to my mind...
  16. For a short moment my eyes were searching for sharpness - how stupid to look after such mundane concepts especially in a composition like this where the balance which the red conse tries to offer is anyway in vain. Michael referred to Texas border - from Europe I can add the Brexit debate to the collection of signs of a planet out of whack...

Michael, Vincent: many thanks for your comments! "often the shadow seems more real than the body" (Teju Cole in "Blind Spot")

Jack, many thanks for your comment - and indeed, I was hoping you'd enjoy this photo!
