1.
I know this has been batted around on here before, but never really seemed to get a correct answer, so I thought I would revisit it. OK, Efke IR 820, 4x5, processed in Jobo reel/tank, rinsed with wetting agent, distilled water.....dirty. Redid and squeegeed, dirty and starting to scratch (I know this film is pretty easy to scratch so we can't keep rewashing it). Its like a film mostly, not specks but water marks. I have heard lots of people having problems but no solutions. It almost seems like the negs produce a scum or something of their own. The images are beautiful, but man I have never seen so much dirt. It looks like it was dropped in a muddy river and fished it out or something. I would really like to be able to use this film but I don't know what to do about the dirt. Also I did some other negs (Efke 25) at the same time and they looked much better. I think Tmax 100 spoiled me, that stuff is tough and always came out flawless (as far as surface imperfections). If we can't get it clean, how is the Rollei? I have heard its only some better, not perfect.

2.
I am in SE KY and it has been crazy weather and I am worried about fall color down this way. If we get any at all I imagine it will be later. I will be going down to the Smokies around the 15th for a couple of days, but imagine I will be back down the end of the month like last year. It has been very wet all summer and the temps have been moderate. Not hot during the summer and now that fall is getting here we still haven't had anything near normal, very warm. I would try later, especially since you have all the other things working against you. If you would like my cell number I would be glad to email it to you in case you have a hard time finding color. Sometimes just a few miles can make a huge difference.

3.
I have a friend that has a Jobo ALT1500 that is well used and he told me to make him an offer on it. I don't know what it is worth and have searched but haven't seen one for sale. How much do you think it is worth? I want to pay him what is fair, but I am guessing now something like this is only worth a couple of hundred dollars or so. I bought an alt1000 several years ago from him and paid $800 for it. It has sat for at least a half dozen years, I am sure it will need seals, etc.

4. I didn't mean to sound like it was the processor, the Jobo is great. I had never heard of tar spots, and I am mixing the chemials as a one shot deal and putting them straight into the machine from graduated cylinders, so its not what I am storing them in or the fact that they may not be fresh. Thanks for the heads up so far though. I will test some black and white film and see what happens. The kit has the wetting agent in it, and I am using it.
5. I have been digital now for a couple of years but never really liked the look when shooting landscapes so I have

dusted off my old Mamiya 645 and Jobo ALT1000 and started shooting some Velvia again. I am using the Kodak 6

process E6 in the Jobo and using distilled water for the final rinse, using a squeegee, drying in a fairly dust

free room but getting dust spots, lots of them, on the chromes. Its little black specks all over the chrome, I

would guess at 100% I have to clean 100 of these little boogers off in PS. I have tried compressed air and a

brush and it seems they are stuck in there tight. This leads me to believe that it is happening when its drying

and getting glued to the film while drying. I was thinking on building a small drying rack kinda thing, but I

wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and worked out another solution. Ideas anyone? Something I forgot?

6. Thanks for your input, I looked at an ad for the Epson but didn't see anything about the holders being glassless. The fluid holders are interesting and looked at some reviews and it looks pretty nice
7. I have grown tired of shooting digital and have dusted off my ol' Linhof and

want to shoot for real again. I would like to get an affordable (<$1000)

scanner for my chromes and was looking at some of the new Epson models. The

specs look good, but I worry about how the film is held. I really don't want to

have it on glass (newton rings, dust, etc), and I was wondering if any use a

tray or anything to hold the film and does it hold it flat?

8. Jessica I see you are a student trying to learn photography the old fashion way, good for you. I have some stuff I have been looking to donate to a student. Can you shoot 220? I have a bunch of 220 Provia that a friend of mine gave me when he went digital and I really like Velvia better as I shoot landscapes only with my chromes. If you like that flavor of film would be glad to send it to you. I also have some darkroom stuff I may give you, motor base, drums, etc. I am getting married in March and moving and need to shed some junk. Does any of this interest you?

9. John,

They tell you the basics of it on their site, click the "ordering" tab and then click "if you shoot film". You have to set up an account to get prices and order, but its easy and they are priced really well. I am a pro, but even if you are not they don't check that close, just tell them the name of your studio is Johns Photography or something. They will then give you a customer # and you can access much more info on pricing. They seem to be really good so far, but I just ordered a few test prints from digital files.

10. Stephen was telling you the correct way to expose waterfalls, but there is a problem with digital here. Digital is not known for its ability to go smooth into blown highlights. What that means is when the water starts getting milky white on film, its blows out and goes totally clear on digital. Make sense? I know you said they had overexposed, but maybe this is what is really happeneing? I still shoot slide film for nature.....
11. Graveyard Fields is one of my favs. Hope we have good color this year. I had a trip to Colorado planned but had to cancel. We are do here in the South East, seems like it has been a long time since great color here. These cool nights should start bringing it around if the wet weather has not hurt things. I wonder what the leaf gurus say, there is this guy actually from my area in SE KY now at WNC that is suppose to be an expert at predicting fall color, but I can't remember his name....
12. Looking for fall colors in the Mid Appalachias. Don't trust tourism driven

websites, so trusting my photo.net buddies. Thinking about heading up to Dolly

Sods area 1 st week of Oct or wherever the color is best. Please post what you

are finding.

THanks, Kenny

13. Looking for a new album company and I am overwhelemed. I was going to do it

myself (perfect binding) but after a streak of bad luck and a lot of wasted time

with the equipment I am sending it back. I am leaning toward Stone now as I

like their set up. I looked at Pictage and it was a bit pricey I felt (but

really nice). The low end stuff is out like Snapfish. Any other suggestions?

I saw one cover that I really liked, it was a perfect bound book that had a

picture that wrapped around to form the cover. Not sure where it came from. I

don't want the album with pages that you insert a picture.
