Valparaiso is a fascinating place for street photography, it is dense, unpolished, rich in textures and humanity... a bit overwhelming, in fact: I'm still trying of making sense of it... thank you for comments and critiques! L

    Ash Gets Adopted

A brilliant image, although a simple, "unsophisticated" one, in the sense of (apparently) close to a simple family snapshot. But of course it is not a snapshot: composition is clean and effective (the triangle of faces), without distracting elements. Expressions are excellent, and of course, Ash is priceless. And the title makes it for me. Well done!

The San Joaquin campus of the Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile is one of the nicest university campuses I have seen. This one was taken through the window of the (Social Sciences?) Library... thanks for comment and critiques!

This is one very nice street image. Not much more to say... well done! L

Siamak, well, this is definitely "street photography" ;-). Apart from jokes: I think it is a great idea and the result is very pleasant, well done. A few things I would try to see how they result. - Crop out the lower part to get a square or almost square image. Of course it reduces the effectiveness of the white line to guide your eye to the end of the road, but on the other hand, I find the out-of-focus in the lower part of the image somewhat unpleasant. It may work or not... - You are, I think, not fully using your tonal range. The hills that fold one after the other are very nice, and give depth to the image (and this one is an image all about depth...) but they would work better if they were more separated in tone, probably bu pushing the background sky almost to white, and spreading the level of each hill accordingly from the dark one in front, to a much lighter tone in the last one. Again, it may work or it may become excessive, but it may be worth trying. Cheers! L

Hi Brad, a nice documentary image, of the kind that tell "what we are" for the times to come. I find the crop too tight on the left and the bottom, having some space on the side of the man, and under the wheels, would give the image more space to "breathe". Cheers!

    Juan Pablo window staring

This is a beautiful image, and I'm impressed to see it comes from a phone (although of late they have become extremely good). The composition is simple, well balanced, free of distractions, the tones well mastered, the whole scene conveys a peaceful and reflective mood. Well done!

    Two different holes

Hi Marco, this is a very nice abstract composition, very balanced, with pleasant texture. I like that you avoided putting the two horizontal lines exactly horizontal, this gives it more interest. If anything, the upper part lacks some "pop", I don't exactly know how to say it, but it appears somewhat flat (for my taste, of course...). Cheers!

    _DSC6135-BW_S

This image has many things going for it: the tonal range is wide and well exploited, the light grazing on the road, the background skyline of the city and the bridge creating depth and setting the scene, and of course the man silhouette and his shadow, both walking in the emptiness of the street. What I feel limits it is the confusing right part which I find distracting. If it had not been there (which as of course not possible from the point where you were), the image would have been perfect. Cheers! L

    Covered Woman and Girl

Very nice diagonal composition, the serious look of the little girl, the curved head of the woman, all works very well... nice work!

    In the Gallery

Hi James, thank you for the kind words! The light in the gallery was quite exceptional indeed. She was lit, if I recall correctly, from a window on the right from which a blade of falling sun came in, while dark curtains were keeping most of the rest of the place dark... a lucky situation. Cheers!

    Three Birds.

Saad, really an impressive photo. What strikes me personally is the impression of perfect "flatness", as if the kids and the bird were cut out from paper and glued on a surface. This gives it a surreal quality that I find fascinating. Well done!

  22. Jack, this is really too kind of you, and I don't deserve such praise, but I'm sensible to flattery, so thank you very much :-). I'm particularly undeserving here, since the photo essentially took itself... the sight was so amazing that the only way to get a bad photo was not to take it. Yes I have been away for a long while, partly too "practically" busy, as you say, partly simply with my head elsewhere, but I finally felt "hungry" again... This is actually an old photo (2012) that got caught in my switch from AfterShot Pro to Lightroom, and was not yet properly worked on in AFP, and not yet into LR. Thanks again! L
  23. The sun setting over the Licancabur volcano in the Atacama desert, northern Chile. Due to the extreme dryness and clarity of the air, and the lack of recognizable details, the scale of the image is hard to perceive. From the place where I stood to the end of the plain (where the shadow ends and the cinder slopes begin) is about 13 km. To the volcano summit, about 35km. Thanks for comments and critiques!
