Greg,
Try to think of HDR as a a form of "digital art" derived from digital photography. Just like Monet and Picasso higlighted what they wanted you to see,you are doing the same, just using pixels and a mouse instead of a wet pallete and a brush!
Hakunamata! I think HDR is a great technique! I would love to have known Leonardo Da Vinci's thoughts on this.
Regards,
Mohammed.

I think you have done it correctly. It looks bigger on screen at 100% because the screen shows you at 72ppi not 300ppi. To see the actual size click "see print size" or usually about 25%.

Thanks Bob and Marco for those great links!

Joseph the "dotty" texture I refered to is only on the polarizer. It is barely noticeable but if you hold it up to the light and look very carefully you may notice what I mean.
Is Eclipse Fluid basically methanol? I would have thought methanol is too fast and could also damage coatings? Perhaps ethanol or propanol would be safer but I am too scared to try it on my lenses or expensive coated filters. I have always wanted to order a bottle of Eclipse fluid from the USA but they don't ship such liquids anymore due to security rules.

Hi,
I have the identical same filter and it is very very good however it is a nightmare to clean, always seems to have a subtle greasy streak on it and it deos not easily go away, requie lot of undesirble rubbing/breadth/cleaning fluid etc etc but when i hold it at an angle in the light and inspect it still seems to have some slight streaks.
It also has a kind off a "dotty dotty" texture to it but I learnt this is normal.

One more thing - I have always wondered if upgrading to CS3 and the new version of ACR will make much difference? How does this stack up against C1-pro for quality and workflow?
-
Hi Alan,
I am pretty much in the same boat as you. I shoot with a Canon 30D and use CS2 with ACR 3.4. The bridge interface is good for workflow. However I do find the the quality of converted images sometimes a bit dissapointing, a little less vibrant and saturated compared to conversions done with Canons RIT (Raw Image Task). That said, Adobe ACR is definitely better for rhe more complex conversions needing extreme highlight recovery etc.
I must try the C1-pro. How much does it cost?

Fully agree with Colin.
As one learns and becomes more sophisticated one also learns that simplicity is excellence!

I don't do any capture sharpening but do use a bit of creative occasionally and very selectively. Need more information to advise you if possible a watermaked copy of one of your images to review.

Have never seen IS info in Exif data on my 30D. Wish it could be there though for postmortem analysis.

Shoot manual say and aperture of about f8, spot meter of the reflection on the water and then the sand and then set shutter speed halfway in between...
-
Yes i forgot to mention that --- "and not pointing the Flash directly at the subject" .... that helps great. Keep it about a 40 deg upwards and if you have a stofen diffuser it helps a lot too.

For a party indoors at night shoot in manual mode, try ISO 800, 1/50s and f2.8 - f4.5 with flash in ETTLii with +1 FEC. Works beautifully to capture brilliant subject detail while retaining the low light backgound ambience.
-
Auto zoom only works in the second vertical position. i.e you need to put it right down position (which is for very close up), and up slightly to the second position (which is normal flash). If you pint it up any more vertically it goes into bounce mode and no auto zoom again.

In Photoshop go to Image, Adjustments, Channel Mixer, select Monochrome, and then play with the sliders. Suggest you start with R-15, G-10, and B75.
Final touching with some Dodge and Burn helps.

Dunno much about weddings, mut do check out the RRS brackets for twin ETTL flash macro

Please excuse my typos - unfortunately this forum does not allow editing errors.

Lindsay,
Raw files have a lot more data that can be "processed" and filtered to create an optimal JPEG. When you shoot RAW and procees to JPEG manually you take full control of this process. When you shoot JPEG you are saying to the camera "I trust your automatic algorithm and will accept whatever JPEG your produce". No most new cameras do produce very good JPEGS however for real control and RAW gives the maximum flexibiliy and often is able to do better than in camera JPEG when in the hands of a skilled person.
You may compare this to fish in the market vs the ocean. The ocean is vast and has much more fish, al lot of not so good stuff but the best fish are still always in the ocean available for the picking. However it is easier to go and just buy a reasonably good fish from the market....

Best to ask the airline as different airlines/airports have different policies.

Glad you liked it.
One more thing about the slideshow, when yougo into a gallery you can give it a minute or two to allow all the images to load up. This will depend on the size/number of images and your connection speed. Once it's loaded up ou can jut roll the mouse wheel to scroll through all the images really fast. This I felt was one pf the nicest features of Simpleviewer. Also I felt the image quailty and sharpening for web was very good.

Hi
Take a look at my very amatuer site - http://www.abidally.com/mp/home
and browse the slideshow. This is done using a free software called simpleviewer and you will find the link at the bottom of my web page.
Enjoy!
