  1. Found a book published in 1923: Principals of Pictorial Photography: Used as a Supplement Text in the New York Institute of Photography by John Wallace Giles. Anyone familiar with this book?
  2. I was looking at some Russian cameras labeled Contax...then I came across this article which I found extremely informative about purchasing Russian 'Contax' cameras. Just thought I would pass it on. http://www.zeisscamera.com/articles_JenaContax.shtml
  3. Asked to list some advantages: Has video, light weight, you can take it into venues where cameras are prohibited. Send photos from the Iphone easily, need one item at hardware store photograph it to show salesman then delete. Need repairs show it to workers. Guy repaired my roof and showed the repairs made without my climbing up to see it. Also app on my cell phone for light meter when I use cameras without meters. I find my cellphone to be a different photographic tool than a film camera, which I also use extensively. My Nikonos V is too rugged to give up.
  4. As for digital cameras the Iphone seems to have replaced almost all models and it has advantages that a digital camera does not.
  5. Not sure if this is the appropriate forum but....I just found buried in my library a book published by Morgan & Morgan (Britain 1977) "The Nikon Manual Incorporating the Nikkormat: Technical and Practical". Anyone have knowledge of this book? I found one listing on the auction site but no information and some pseudo-listings (not real listings).
  6. Pentax announced that they will start production on film cameras. I have no more information other than that. Unknown models or dates.
  7. Let me add for public knowledge. The batteries should turn on the LCD without film. Film for this camera is not longer available as it is a special Polaroid product. Display model only.
  8. I have a Polaroid Image 1200. I know literally nothing about these cameras. I put 2 AA batteries in the camera without adding film. The batteries are supposed to work the display only. When I put the batteries in (correctly and close the compartment properly) noting happens. Does the camera need batteries and film simultaneously for anything to work? Or, is the display dead?
  9. FYI: Replaced batteries in all my Nikonos. 2 Renata 357 (SR44 Silver Oxide 1.5 volts type). The Nikonos IV-a meter is more sensitive than Nikonos V.
  10. I have a Nikonos IV-a. The battery works & I advanced the shutter will passed 1. TDhe Shutter is set to A. The LED light does not come on. The camera was serviced professionally in 2017. Does it need film? ( My Nkonos V LED works without film.) Or, is the LED in need or repair?
  11. One more issue I discovered with the OM-2. I use eye cups on all my cameras. The OM-2 eye cup will block the back from opening. The eye cup must be lifted (or removed) for the back to open.
  12. Has anyone purchased cameras from Ukraine during the Russian invasion especially from Kiev?
  13. I am posting this topic as I ran across this problem recently and could not find a direct answer on one site. Normally, I am not an Olympus user (Nikon & Leica) but I do have a pristine OM-2 (thanks to the 90's digital era when film cameras were being discarded). The mirror in my OM-2 locked up. Try this solution: 1. replace batteries. low or dead batteries will cause this 2. after replacing batteries do mirror check to determine if the new batteries are working 3. at the bottom of the camera below the lens there is a "switch". Press it in and switch to bulb. This is the final step and necessary. It worked for me. If you have a mirror lock up try it before discarding the camera or sending it out for repair.
  14. I had a Nikon D1. I was disappointed with it. I wore our quickly. Certainly was not worth repairing,
  15. II have inquired about this lens twice with not much comments. On the web there are not any reviews; certainly not positive. I will stick with my Nikonos 20mm. Sea & Sea becomes a paperweight.
  16. I have a Sea & Sea 20mm f3.5 lens for the Nikonos which I have never used. Does anyone service this lens for diving? Is the rubber gasket on this lens the same as the Nikonos 20mm? And, does anyone have experience with this lens as compared to the Nikonos 20mm?
  17. I have a 20mm f3.5 Sea & Sea lens which I have never used as it is an underwater only lens. I came across it with a Nikonos V. Does anyone have any experience with this lens? Is it safe to use with a Nikonos IV & Nikonos V? I can not find any information on this lens. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you.
  18. I going to answer the initial posted question. I never take photos of animals and rarely take pictures of landscapes. The only time I photograph landscapes are 1. as a cover shot to the location where I am photographing a person & 2. if the the landscape is so unique that I need to remember it. For the most part I photograph people. Roland Barthes who is not a photographer but a philosopher wrote of photography when he looked at a photograph of his deceased mother. To paraphrase him: She existed and it brought back memories.I have an early Daguerreotype of an elderly woman. There is no name attributed to it. When I look at I see a person that was probably born during Washington's Administration. Imagine her memories! One time I was at Mount Vernon and wanted to take a photo of the home. I could not get one without people in it. In the gift shop there were numerous ones at different times of the year (as post cards). Why take the photo if I can buy a better one? After fifty years of photography I look back on the images of people, family & friends, even enemies that are not longer there. Before I press the shutter button I think to myself: What do I want to remember? What do I want to communicate to others? Just my opinion and many people will disagree. I understand.
  19. I have a 50mm f1.8e lens. When I look at images of it on the internet it looks exactly like the 50mm f1.8 pancake. Are the two lenses the same? If not, are there differences? Thank you.
  20. Very sad. I read all his books, even if I did not understand all the science.
  21. Should that rod be lubricated? Nikonos grease? Or, anything else?
  22. Follow up: I was looking into the rear of the lens and there was a 'mechanism." I gently pushed on it and it slid down. I returned the lens to the camera and it focused. Anyone know what this mechanism is?
  23. I have a 135mm tele-elmar f4 that does not focus. My other lenses focus on the M6 and I tried the lens on another M6. What is the problem? Is it repairable?
  24. I have a Nikon F4. The electronic rewind did not work (I could rewind manually). Is this repairable and is it worth repairing?
