  1. Moderator Note - Originally posted in Casual Photo Conversations, I am now moving this thread to "Business of Photography".
  2. That is likely very relevant information. WW
  3. Do what samstevens advised and what I wrote should give a scaffold for questions she could ask. Insurance and employment relationships in the USA are similar to here in Aus. If she is still in doubt: she could get legal advice; she could become a member of a professional (photographers') association some might have that advice; in the USA there might be similar to here - we have "Insurance Brokers/Agents" these are specialists in the aspects of Insurance for Business and Private, however, their advice comes with a vested interest as they are also are selling a product. Good Luck to her. WW
  4. Firstly - It would assist to know the location (jurisdiction) of the job: insurance cover where I generally work is different to that required in Hong Kong, as one example. Secondly - Clarification is required - are you asking about what Insurance Coverage the Photographer would be required to have? - or - What Insurance Coverage the 'major video company' is required to have? - or - The aircraft company? - or - generally what are all the insurances policies applicable? etc. Thirdly - the specific nature of the 'employment' is probably relevant: as one example if the Photographer is 'an employee of' the 'major video company' and that company is located in, for example Australia, then that company would (should) have insurance which generally covers the well-being of their 'employees' - however, if a video shoot from the light aircraft is typically a one off event an not specified in their employee's contract agreement, then it would be typical (probably a legal requirement, but I am not sure) that the 'major video company' would need insurance pursuant to the safety (death and injury coverage) for the one event. On the other hand, if a Photographer (in Australia, for example) is 'employed' as a 'sub contractor' (which in simple terms means the Photographer has their own business and that business is 'hired' by the 'major video company') then the Photographer's business is generally responsible for insurance coverage for all aspects of the jobs that business undertakes including damage to persons and their property, and, typically the Photographer's death, illness or accidental incapacity as a result of said work - BUT - there could be a legal wrangle if the 'plane went down and the Photographer died and it was argued that the Pilot was at fault or the 'plane was faulty. Notwithstanding the above - the 'Ultra Light Aircraft' business is likely responsible for many aspects of insurance, including death of passengers, in many jurisdictions. Insurance requirements for any business can be complex in nature, and legally precise in their execution: the complexity and precision of execution is exacerbated if the policy is written and executed in an actively litigious community. 5. That's a suggestion, thank you: if not already read, please see this conversation - LINK WW
  6. Like Sandy I also believe that there are no issues here, and - Indeed. I also agree. I am hungry - it's lunchtime here. I think that we have an adult and most amicable outcome, which is appreciated. WW
  7. That was understood by me from the get go, and, that was the main reason why I interrogated this subject extensively; as a result of that interrogation I posted my conclusion. WW
  8. Because the conclusion stated is not evidence based sufficient to dismiss other feasible conclusions. That response answers your question. However, it is understood that it is very likely that is not really the question(s) you want answered - in this regard, please note the following points: > Before I responded, I researched, interrogating into the bowels of PN > I too have (many) discrete email addresses, typically each is used only once and often for a "sign up" purpose: this has been my practice for many years > I note that, from time to time, spam mail has entered some of those email address which I have created *** My conclusion is based on the evidence I have recently gathered, and also my personal experiences. My comment "non sequitur" was carefully researched and posted to quell fears, nothing more and nothing less. WW
  9. Non sequitur. Unfortunate, possibly annoying for you, but nonetheless, non sequitur. WW
  10. Upon a re-check, there appears no images in the portfolio of User "mickeysimpson". Additionally, upon further research several of the same points have been raised previously and indeed addressed by TGOPS and other Moderators: for one example, on February 8th in this conversation - LINK Obviously my recent absence from Photo.net rendered me ignorant of these previous conversations, and it is now that I better understand the comment Sandy made recently in this conversation. This topic is now closed. William
  11. By the way - on the matter of 'deleting' - it behooves one to mention the fact that - once anything is published on the www, that publication can never be 'deleted' If someone has the skill and desire then, any 'deleted' publication, can be found. Which from a quirky end-point philosophical point of view, renders these discussions moot, or perhaps to the IT purist, laughable. I assume being in IT for decades you'd already know this so it is mentioned for others who might not understand this very important point. Notwithstanding good quality door locks, and the owner having the key to those locks, makes people feel safe and has a certain amount of protection - I understand that point too. Your other conversation is akin to this thread - about to kill or not to kill the "download image" button - LINK - and I made the same point there, too. WW
  12. Indeed, your last note was about the scheduling of the time delayed permanent deletion I did not interpret that as a complaint: Moreover - I believe I answered your note, however if my response has been misunderstood I will restate using different words - the time delayed deletion process will stay as is for the time being and for the foreseeable future. Indeed, suggestions are welcome: as was your suggestion welcome - and then processed, investigated, considered and then answered - the time delayed deletion process will stay as is for the time being and for the foreseeable future. However my guess that you might have deleted the same image twice was wrong - but from that guess comes this . . . Although the text was at first read a tad confusing for me - "I do not delete images more than one time" then "Later, the images appeared again. I deleted them again." appears as a contradiction, however I think I have made sense of the meaning of it. I think what you mean is, as a matter of course you do not delete images twice - however when the "deleted" images reappeared after the migration you deleted those images again. These details you have provided are relevant and very interesting, thank you: the detail you have provided might help solve another matter on which I am working. For your interest and understanding - my next educated guess is: the 850 images you "deleted" before the migration were never deleted from the server and thus carried over via the migration. I won't go into the details - suffice to say your experience as detailed above goes to better explaining/understanding some other issues. So - Thanks for the detail Nonetheless: pursuant to your images and the methodology as to how all members can delete their images and concerning how a member can have their account cancelled and all matter deleted - these matters are closed in this thread. WW
  13. As another "by the way" - Mickey - in my leisure time last evening, I interrogated the deleted images queue and there seems none deleted by you: I might have missed your User name, if I did sorry, it was late, past midnight. Therefore - on the assumption that you have no Images recently deleted I reckon this matter is closed. On the other hand - if you did delete images recently - then let the cycle runs its course and don't re delete the same image. Thanks. WW
  14. My educated guess is 're-deleting' the same image has begun a new cycle for the permanent deletion - then you've raised a complaint and a Moderator has addressed that complaint. However . . . The essence of your position is in the underlined bolded bit of the section I have quoted from your response. viz: "I don’t really care if my deleted image(s) remain visible to me while awaiting the delete proc to run." And as there are many other urgent matters requiring attention, then for foreseeable future you should be content with deleting an image ONCE and then waiting for the cycle to permanently delete that image. Thank you for your understanding. One other point, by the way, - Only those with Moderator Traits can permanently delete the images - and all Moderators are volunteers. WW
  15. Even on websites where Right Click and then [Save Image] is disallowed, once an image is published on the web, it is able to be downloaded if the desire to do so is present: note, even if the image has been 'deleted' it can be found. Understood that locks on doors inhibit naughty (opportunistic) events happening and it would be nice in a perfect platform to have lots of user options, however my view is, publishing low res images suffices do do away with big-time theft of one's work. As we don't have a perfect platform (but have made recent big advancements) I reckon time spent looking at the big picture item fixes is better spent than making a user option to have download image "on" or "off" - I do think most people understand (or should understand) that once they publish ANYTHING on the www, it can be found and subsequently downloaded. WW
  16. It's understood that not all the Site Help threads are read, on the other hand, it does bode well to have a squizz at previous conversations especially when this particular topic is quite a common discussion piece - and as an helping hand, if in the future a member sees a similar gripe, can you please refer them to the question already addressed - hopefully this detailed information will assist . . . The process of deleting on this system is automatically TIME segmented. One should not assume an immediate response. Similar to a PC - one dumps the rubbish in "Trash", where it resides, until the Trash is EMPTIED. This functionality has been explained before. Please read this conversation for a detailed answer, with examples LINK It is easy to mark a photo and delete it - and yes - a background process does (permanently) delete later. This has been explained before. As a test, my colleague, who is a "Member" of Photo.net, in the last hour logged in and deleted two of their images. The procedure is (and was always on this platform) as follows - Using the drop down on your name, select [Profile] Then [Images] Then hover the mouse over the Image and select [View the Image] In the new window at the bottom left, there is a drop down [Manage Image] - select [Delete] - There will be a pop up asking to confirm the delete selection. Returning to your Profile, you will now note that the 'deleted' image still appears, however it is encased in a light purple surround, this indicates the 'deletion' (which as described above and previously is an AUTOMATIC and TIME DELAYED managed process. If any member requires deletion of their account and the contents contained therein, then simply ask a Moderator. This also has been mentioned previously and numerously. There have been Members who have requested this, and, ever since these cited (new) EU laws have been in effect, I know of no request which has not been done (immediately) upon a Moderator receiving that request. WW Below are screen shots which will assist in your quest to delete your Images -
  17. BTW - I can't find a Canon model "t7s". I can find (USA models) T7; T7i; and T6s - all these models, with the kit lens, would suit the situation as I described above. WW
  18. I am confused - Does this mean "I presently use a Canon T7s" - or - "the 'school' uses Canon T7s" If the former, then I suggest the chap use his T7s for the course, especially if this is an High School Course. What's the course comprise? A few of years ago I got talking to two High School Teachers at a restaurant in San Francisco - at the school they taught, the (Art) curriculum is similar to what I know here: focusing on (practical) basics incorporating both the 'artistic' and the 'technical' elements of Photography, additionally, with splattering of 'history' thrown in. If this is the situation for this student, then a Canon entry level DSLR and kit lens would be (more than) adequate. *** On the point of expansion of a kit at a later date, when one has a better idea of the objectives of one's Photography (be they amateur or professional) , I agree with point Ed Farmer made regarding Canon and Nikon: I too have been slammed for that opinion: regarding 135 Format, since 1972 I've used Minolta, then Nikon then Canon; as I developed my Photography and as my business interests widened I quickly realized it was only Nikon and Canon that offers the range and a quick and easy of access of product, beyond others. The reason I changed from all Nikon to all Canon (cica. 2004) was, (IMO) Canon nailed Digital early on with the 20D, 30D and 5D. As well as directing the question here, the student should direct his question to the teacher(s) of the course. *** If the meaning of the quoted section is the school uses Canon T7s, then (if supplied by the school), I reckon the student should use that camera for the course: if the school doesn't allow 24 hour access to the camera, then I recommend a second hand purchase or perhaps borrowing a DSLR or Mirrorless - as Rodeo mentioned, mirrorless has advantages, at a price cost though. *** As a general comment, I think "investing" $1000.00 for (what I assume is) a High School Photography course is putting the cart before the horse - if by another means there is a basic DSLR or Mirrorless available at no cost - use that, for the time being: after the course the student will (should) know a lot more about how to spend $1000.00 and how to get a better bang for those 1000 bucks. WW
  19. In what role? What were your responsibilities? What is the market there? Not really relevant at this point of the Business Planning. Answering the questions above will be start to your Business Plan. WW
  20. I don't like them. For events (and weddings) I use(d) an individual strap for each camera. Carrying three cameras, typically two with long straps slung over my shoulders, and one on a wrist strap. With two cameras, typically one slung and one on my wrist strap. If using Flash, then those would be on the slung cameras, usually on a bracket. Wrist strap camera never has Flash. I tried belt clip and bracket and I found the weight distribution on my waist was uncomfortable. If using a Telephoto Lens (300 or longer) then that's usually on a Monopod and when not in use I leave it on the ground near where I am shooting and carry it over shoulder when traveling. I don't tend to 'carry' my kit bag around with me when shooting, I leave it close by in a safe place, unless I have an assistant, which is rare these days. *** The extremely good quality Zoom Lenses, Digital Cameras and large content recording cards available nowadays, allows Wedding and Event Photographers to travel carrying (only) two Camera Bodies and two Zoom Lenses (or in the case of Events, such as Sport, one Camera with a Zoom and one with a Telephoto) A few extra recording cards; a note taking device (i.e. mobile phone); White Card; Colour Check Card; and perhaps a Flash Modifier, in their pocket. If using flash, each Camera could have a Speedlite, perhaps one on a Bracket, if necessary. *** As a general comment: Since 2004, I have extolled the virtues of a Dual Format Digital System with two (fast) Zoom Lenses for uses such as Weddings and Events - that is the basic kit for this type of work. If using Flash then add two good quality Speedlites. Digital Cameras and the advancement in Zoom Lens technology (and Digital Post Production) has done away with the need for carrying 3 or 4 cameras, Multiple Lenses, Film Bags, and a lot of "stuff". These advancements should allow the Photographer to focus more on the Photography, not all the ad-on 'stuff' that sales folk and internet bloggers would have one believe is necessary and professional. WW
  21. My comment addresses only Portraiture, in its widest meaning - "photographing people'. The main focus of my Photography, both Professional and Amateur, is and has been 'people'. Mentioned many times before in these Forums is "rapport". A suggestion addressing 'ideas of things you can "do" with amateur photography' whilst incorporating 'it is nice to do something constructive with what I have' - would be to seek out the opportunities of Portraiture (as I defined above). I continue to shoot amateur Sports fixtures, mainly Youth Swimming and Field Hockey - give the keepers to the Clubs for their Facebook page etc. (as one example) If you have connection with a Church - consider an expose on the History of the Church - That could be Architecture - the Prominent people - what they each do - the ideas are limitless . . . *** I mention 'rapport' because it is a great thrill (for me) to engage with people, when working through the lens: people from all walks of life and with an host of diverse experiences and viewpoints of and on life. A value add, is one the shutter is released, I have that moment, for ever. And sometimes doors open very wide to ongoing constructive experiences - WW
  22. In light of Glen's comments, to be clear I was thinking the OP (exclusively) meant using an Enlarger and Wet, Photographic Paper Development, when he wrote "film negative and developing it on photo paper". WW
  23. Gidday and welcome, Interesting screen name: I didn’t study much Chemistry, but I do remember Bismuth is like a Metal, but not a true Metal. Amazing what we remember. Arhh, "Boof" I think has origins in the Newspaper Cartoon 'Dagwood and Blondie' Good name, a contraction of "Boof-Head". That's something my Dad called me, often. I reckon you might get lots of advice, My first advice is to post an image on which you are seeking advice in Seeking Critique Forum. Include the shooting conditions and EXIF and also explain what you wanted to achieve, but didn't. Hope you enjoy Photo.net. WW
  24. The HDMI OUTPUT of the EOS7D is MINI HDMI PORT (female) therefore to connect to that, you will need one end of the cable to be MINI HDMI JACK (male) Need to confirm exactly what the connection is on your monitor - perhaps a photo will assist? The next question is, if the input to your Monitor is not HDMI, then before buying cable, you should confirm that the HDMI output of the 7D is compatible with the INPUT of your Monitor. WW
