    Snow Flakes

          5

I captured a bundle of snow flakes recently, here's a small

collection. The middle one in the top row is what I would call an

embryo flake, it hasn't grown any arms yet. If you look closely at

the flake in the middle of the bottom row, you can see the embryo

flake in the centre. Not suprisingly, I've decided I need an

extension ring for my macro lens! The colours are the refracted light

in the snow flake crystals, with increased saturation in photoshop.

All this, courtesy of the designer of our amazing planet. Thanks for

    your comments, Tony

  1. Denis, this is a lovely photograph. Blue Jays will often not wait for the camera - you captured a lovely view. I like the balance with the sharp focus in the foreground and soft focus behind the bird. Regards, Tony

Hi Carole. Thanks for the kind remarks. Chloe has a place in our sunroom where she is naturally lit by sunshine from behind. I took my exposure from her face which is dark and not lit directly by the sun. In this way, with a bit of help from Photoshop, I can wash away the background. Regards, Tony

    Larry,

Thanks for the encouraging remarks. The black background is supplied by a black velvet cloth. I set the camera on timer mode and then hold the black cloth in place. Regards, Tony

Lovely shot! I appreciate the point about putting the fish and the heron's head more in the centre, however the heron's shoulder and partial wing also say something about this beautiful bird. And I like the angle of the photograph too. It's almost as if you are looking over his/her shoulder. The detail of the fish is excellent also. Regards, Tony

Beautiful composition. I love the simplicity and colours. Yes perhaps a starfish in the foreground would be good. But the pristine sand with no footprints is great. Regards, Tony

    Chloe again!

This photo of Chloe was backlit by daylight to create a light

background. The main focus was her face and beautiful blue eyes. She

    is a Hymalian Ragdoll mix.

    Any thoughts? Thanks, Tony
