12mp vs 24mp

Keep in mind that while you are doubling the megapixel count, you are not doubling the resolution. While you will see a small difference if you are making huge posters or need a bit more cropping ability as compared to upsizing your files, for most typically sized prints you likely won't see any difference. Is it still worth the upgrade? Yes - you will likely enjoy the D5300 over the D90.

  3.
This shot was done with the lowly 35mm f2 lens and extension tubes. These combination gets you very, very close with good IQ.

  4.
There are numerous inexpensive ways to get great macro photos. And they all seem to be underrated.

The sample comparison test shots below are unprocessed, full frame RAW image from my D3.

  5.
Extension tubes are very, very affordable (well under $50) and will possibly work well with a lens that you may already own. What lenses do you currently use?

  6.
Since you are a JPG shooter, it would probably be a good idea to leave it on (using the Normal setting).

  7.
Nick, are you referring to the focus indicators at the bottom left of the viewfinder display?

  8.
If the lens is in perfect focus with +20, I wouldn't worry about it. It should not change over time. I had a Nikon lens that I had to dial in that much for proper focus.

But if you feel uncomfortable, exchange it.

  9.
The OP is asking about a specific EF lens, not FD lenses.

  10.
Which adapter lets you mount Canon lenses on a Nikon body? I have yet to see one.

  11.
No, and as a beginner you would not want to anyway. Stick with Nikon lenses for Nikon cameras (at least to start). There are come pretty good 'kit' deals available if you search for them.
