Thanks for the offer, but no thank you, how did yours come out? I have enough lenses. I kinda went crazy when I got back into my FD stuff. I have enough lenses to cover the range. I am happy with my Tokina ATX 28-85. I would rather have a Canon 28-85, but they are a lot of $$. The Tokina ATX is a nice lens, very sharp, plus it is very compact. My FD 35-105mm f/3.5 is my baby, I don't think anything beats it. But sometimes too big to just walk around with. I got my Vivitar series 1 28-90 before I got these. But as you know, it is very large lens.

Don't laugh at my fix, but this is what I did. Mine was loose between the base and barrel too. I tried to tighten the small screws, but no help. So what I did was mix up some JB Weld, put it into a small syringe (I used a 10cc). Hopefully your syringe has a small nipple on the exit end. Than with some help, pull the lens apart slightly, inject the JB Weld into the gap all the way around the lens. Set the lens down on its front lens ring. Then push the base down to where it is supposed to be without the slack. Wipe off the excess JB Weld. You have a couple of minutes to work this, but not to long. Leave the lens sitting there over night face down.
Now this is a once done it is done fix, but I got the lens cheap, and had nothing to lose. The lens now works great, still takes sharp pictures, and hasn't loosened. I used JB Weld because it was metal I was working with. I suppose you could use epoxy, but I had the JB Weld on hand already. You can see my pics in a earlier post-

Thanks guys, Eagles are quite prevalent around the area this time of the year. I live in the Moline/Rock Island/Davenport/Bettendorf area called the Quad Cities. This is the only are where the Mississippi runs East to West. Anyway, the Eagles just love this area, and you can get pretty close to them.
At a total of 420mm, I knew I would be a little short possibly, but I think my weak link in the set up was the Vivitar 2X piece. Sure wish I had one of those 400L f2.8 with matching converter!

After I got home and opened up the box of my camera, I noticed the hot shoe is
turned clockwise ever so slightly. The box by the way has never been opened.
When mounting up a external flash, there is enough play to align the flash
parallel with the lens. The flash fires fine, and the pop up flash pops up fine
as well. Should I leave well enough alone, or should I take it back or send it
in? Anyone else experience this? Or am I just being anal.
Thanks

Thanks to everyone, I got the 40D with 17-85mm IS lens today. It came in the
anniversary kit I was talking about. So for 1599, I got the Camera, lens, 200DG
bag, and an extra Canon battery. Now its time to learn and play!
Again, thanks for all the real advice.

Here are a couple of pics I just scanned. I took these New Years day along the
Mississippi river. It was about 4 in the afternoon, and 6 degrees F. The B/W is
Kodak BW400CN, the color is some older Kodak 800 I had. The camera was an A-1,
lens was a Tokina AT-X 50-250mm f/4-5.6 racked out to 250mm. I used a Vivitar
FD/FL 2X also, so I was at 500mm. Exposure was 125 @ f/11. I also used a monopod.<div></div>

Whatever is on sale or laying in the clearance bin--Just kidding. I like the Kodak portra line of films, as well as Fuji. I have really no preference. I just make sure I use the right stuff for the situation, like 400UC or VC for bringing color out. I use the Reala or NC for people or things I want to hold color down. As far as B/W, I again like the Kodak E6 process and C41 process. If I can find it cheap, I get Kodak 200 for allpurpose. I do have a pile of Ferrenia film I got for .30 a roll that actually is not too bad. I put that in the kids P&S cameras for them to burn through. I think the moral is to just keep shooting!

Lindy,
I have seen a 5D anniversary box at my local shop. Like you I am a avid FD user, and have seen your posts over on that forum as well. The anniversary box at my local shop has the 24-105L, and it is listed at 2999. What did you get?

Again the Anniversary kits offer canon accessories, and are canon boxed kits, not what the dealer threw in a box. So again the 5D kit is 2999, which includes the body, 24-105 l f/4 lens, extra battery, and the canon 200dg bag. I think the 40D anniversary kits inlclude the 17-85 or 28-135 lens and a 200dg bag and extra battery as well.

I like to shoot anything that catches my eye. So no certain genre.
As far as my local store, they give a 10% of item cost in store credit(their other items in the store are not overpriced) snd 200 4x6 prints(they are a pro lab). So that makes the price very reasonable to me. Plus you get local store treatment. The prices are quoted from memory +/-, so what little savings you may or may not get from BHphoto, is not worth it to me for this purchase.
Thanks guys for all the responses! Man I love this site!

What I meant was in technology with the Digic 3 vs. Digic 2, the Live view, the dust vibrator, and built in flash just to name a few. I guess I should have clarified myself better.

My local camera store has 3 kits. They are all Canon Anniversary Kits. The 5D
kit comes with the 25-105L f/4 lens, extra battery, Camera bag for 2999. The
40D comes in two different kits, a 17-85 IS lens in one for 1599, and a 28-105
for 1499. Does anyone have experience with any of these, and are they worth
it?
I am currently using the Canon FD cameras and would like to move into digital
in a few months, and I am aware that Canon may have some new camera releases
soon. I have read all I can find on the comparisons, and would love to go full
size sensor, but I think the 40D beats the 5D in all except final prints in the
above 8x10 range.
I guess it all boils down to what suits my needs. I just like have a good
camera the first time around and stick with it.
Any suggestions and info on those Anniversary kits would be much appreciated.

I agree with Mark-BURN MORE FILM!!! And I don't know about the rest of you, but Walgreens by me (Rock Island, IL) has been offering 10 cent an exposure to develop 1 hour C-41 film! So I really have been shooting!
But continuing the thread, I plan on using what I have learned in the last year about the FD system to pare down my FD lenses to just what I need. I like to improve my flower photography and to do some portrait work for family/friends.
I shot some Eagles today along the Mississippi river today with my A-1 and MA winder in 6 degree weather, no problems! Hope I got some nice shots!

Does anyone own a SystemPro Monopod? If you do, what do you think about it?
Thanks in advance.

SLIK U-212, for around 100 bucks new, half that (mine was) on the auction site.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. This being an unpaid session, with an explanation as such to my inlaws, will be a great learning situation.

I have a request by some family members to shoot a family portrait for them. I
have some Kodak Porta 160NC or 400NC I was thinking about using. Depending on
the lighting situation, I was going to use fill flash as well. They are
caucasion, there is snow on the ground, I will be using my Canon T90. Any
suggestions? I plan on bracketing exposures. Thanks in advance.

Peter I have one of these too, but mine has a built in hood, and even has the same sticker and number on it. I had asked the same question about a year ago, one member suggested it might be a Chinon. I like the lens too, I used it last year at my kids Christmas program with Fuji 1600 Superia with pretty good results.
I have to look under the hood as Mark suggested to see if it says anything at all.
Canon DPP issues
in Canon EOS Mount
Posted
I just got my 40D as some of you know from my earlier posts. So today, I thought
I would try and play with Canon DPP v 3.1. The program opens fine, and it lets
me play with every other picture on my hard drive. The problem is that when I
try to open the pictures I took with my new 40D, the program freezes and I get a
window that says-"DPPViewer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I of course have scoured the net for info, but can't really find info. So I see
Canon released a new version 3.2, I updated to that and I get the same issue.
My images are in high resolution .jpg. I also have CS3 on the same computer,
but it runs fine. My computer requirements are more than sufficient to run the
program.
Any idea's?
Thanks
