  1. I got it off of ebay for 74 to the door. These have really dropped in price lately. If you can, get one with the Canon lens hood made for it, otherwise, they go for about the same price as the lens alone. The lens I bought is in like new condition. The whole roll of film was perfectly exposed. I used it on my AE1-P, but I also have a A-1, but just haven't used it yet on it. Good luck!
  2. This is a follow-up to my posting about the FD 35-105mm f/3.5. This a picture

of my son on a overcast afternoon, shot on Kodak HD400 at about 80-90mm. I was

very pleased with the results. The scan of the negative does not show the true

    "Pop" of colour and sharpness.<div>00HjZs-31872584.jpg.1893251db09e272ecfb13abe31860f78.jpg</div>

  3. Sorry about the size of the other one guys! Here is a picture of my beautiful wife shot with my AE-1p, using a Vivitar 35-70mm AF/SC f/3.5. It is shot on Kodak C-41 B/W 400. This is lens if very nice, just have to get your target aimed well so the AF can get it in focus after you hit the button! This was probally at or around 40mm.<div>00HjZQ-31872184.jpg.09caa3fe56035de493916c2ed94fa225.jpg</div>
  4. I just got a Canon 35-105mm f/3.5 from ebay. I shot a quick roll of Kodak HD 400, and all I can say is wow. I have a Vivitar Series 1 28-90mm f/2.8 made by Komine, and all I can say there is no comparison. I am finally getting the results I am looking for. So, I think the Canon lenses are truly the best.
  5. Thank you to all for the advice. Passed on a 80-200 Canon L today on eBay, oh well. Would love to stick to straight Canon lens, but like I said, I love a diamond in the rough( don't we all). My brother gave me a Rokinon 80-200mm, it is a 4.5 and Multi coated, looks like a good lens, and the few pics I took with it look good, but I am always looking for the little extra. Not much on Rokinon lens on the net, any ones experience? Thanks.
  6. Ok on the lens shade, but I looked around for one, and they are anywhere from 50 to 90 bucks! More than the lens. Are there good suitable aftermarket ones that you can use instead? I saw one on a site for 5 bucks, and looks about like the same thing. Any ideas?
  7. I was reading your posts on Kodachrome slide film, and I thought I would contribute a pic from my dad's collection of pictures from 1953/54(pic says 1952, but he meant 53/54). He used slide film through a Zeiss Contessa, which he still owns in working order. The slides where scanned, then my dad wrote on them for the slide show he put together. Anyways, he said it was cheaper to buy color slide film, and then they would send them to the states and I think they were processed for free or a nominal charge, anyway, it was cheaper and faster getting them back then processing B/W film over there. The slide is over 50 yrs old when scanned, and it could have been shot yesterday....enjoy.<div>00HQnj-31392484.jpg.325c1a025acc8cad77b05d028b5ab3cb.jpg</div>
  8. Thank you all. Yes I have some 800 film as well. Didn't even consider it, but will use it. The 28mm 2.8 is a Sigma lens, it seems to be a nice lens, I have not noticed any distortion. The zoom will primarly used for the outdoor shots. Again, thanks to all.
  9. I am going to the Chicago museums soon, and I will be bringing along my A1. I

am going to bring the 50 1.4 and a 28mm 2.8, but was thinking on bringing

along a Vivitar 28-200 f3.5 to round it all out. By the way, the vivitar is

so awesome, very sharp and great low light shots at full zoom. The film I

will be using is Fuji Superia 400, and some Kodak C41 B/W. The kinda shots I

will be taking? The kids, wife, and whatever I deem artistic. I do this for

pleasure, and learning, so I appreciate all feedback.

  10. I bought one off of Ebay, it had the squeak as well. So I sent it off to Garry at www.garryscamera.com. He did a very good job for the 53 dollars cost for a full CLA. The camera takes excellent pictures at all light levels. There are also members of this forum who do the CLA as well. Good Luck.
  11. Film is far from dead, and it is still relatively cheap. Just look at Fuji's and Kodak's websites. They are still producing and even improving the film they make. I once had that dilemma of bagging my FD stuff, but I am glad I am waiting as well.

  12. Ok everyone, I get the jist of things. In my thinking, I should overexpose in the type of situation I had, instead I should of been underexposing. Well thank all of you for your inputs. Like I said I am practicing. Even though the A1 has good programmed settings, I want to be able to learn to adjust the camera accordingly.
  13. I did not try to have this effect. Just happened that way. It was a shallow pool with white walls, and very bright over head sun. I was just playing as I want to learn this camera. "Film is cheap" theory;) I read your profile on here, very impressive. I was stationed at Minot AFB for all of my career. Wonderful place. Thanks for your comments.
  14. Here are a few pics with my A1, I used Kodak C41 process BW film through a

Vivitar Series 1 zoom. I compensated by opening up 2 f stops. Let me know,

still trying to figure this camera out, seems to take better pics if I let it

    take the reigns.<div>00Gxdm-30623484.jpg.48ed1e1482914c24c411b17ebad47fa5.jpg</div>

  15. I own both the Canon FD AF 35-70, and the Vivitar version. The Canon is better built, but the Vivitar focuses faster. I just recently acquired both, and have not really taken alot of pics. I picked them both up due to the uniqueness of both.
  16. I just wanted to let all those that are new to Canon FD, alot has to

do with the lens we use. I have had a Canon AE-1P for about 20 yrs(

Grad present). The lens it came with, 50 mm f1.8, always took

wonderful pics. But my parents also bought me a 28mm f2.8 and a

80-200mm f4.5 made by Beston. Well these lens look like nice lens,

but whenever I took pictures, the wide angle was over exposed, and the

zoom was massively underexposed. This left me, especially as a young

man, bewildered. Well fast forward to the present, and with buying

some lens off the internet, I have acquired a sigma wideangle, and

    Vivitar Series 1 28-90mm f2.8, and a Vivitar 28-200mm f3.5. All I can

say is wow! What a difference they make! Although the above named

lens aren't Canon FD, they still allow for some stunning photography.

So in short, don't allow a bad lens to ruin a great camera!<div>00GBDv-29618784.jpg.538ba3e4eca9e965e9db13fcb9bbfe0f.jpg</div>

  17. For those of you who answered earlier, I have recleaned the

contacts. With fresh batteries, I get energizing of the capacitor(I

can here it charge), but the test light doesn't come on. I do

notice when I shut it off, and switch it back on, the test light

emits a dim link. The flash will no fire, or communicate with my AE-

    1P, any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

  18. Thank you for answering. I did clean the contacts since there was some minor corrision, and knocked it around a little. But no luck. Such a beautiful flash, but not worth the $$ to send to get it fixed as you can can get a working one on Ebay for cheaper. Unless you guys know somewhere reasonable?
