  1. This might not be the place to ask what is probably a very stupid question but I am not very knowledgeable about back the Windows 7 automatic backup . I have a desktop with a 500MB drive. I use Carbonite for cloud backups and also an external 1TB drive so the back up is readily available if my computer crashes.. The latter is where the Windows 7 backup is put. What I don't understand is how my 1TB drive is almost full even though there is only about 490 MB used on the 500MB internal drive. What is the best way to set the Windows 7 backup ?

    Tiger

  3. If you scroll over them you should see a file number
  4. I was recently in India and took photos of about 108 different types of birds. I am not a birder per se, more of a photographer of birds. Between some Indian bird sites and a program for id'ng birds in India, called Internet of Birds,. I have managed to identify 68 of them. The rest are at the link below If anyone can identify some of them it would be appreciated. to be Id'd
  5. The new 600mm Nikons are way out of my price range. I can get my hands on an old Nikon 600 f5.6 ED IF for a reasonable price to use for stationary birds on my D500. What can I expect in terms of image quality, i.e is the body too good for the lens/
  6. This is my best shot from my trip to Ranthambore National Park in India. This tiger came into a clearing about 35 feet from the side of the road where our jeep was parked.. He was there for less than a minute
  7. Well I bought ON1 only to find out that I need Photoshop to flatten the layers it creates when I generate a TIFF file if I want Adorama to print them. The whole idea of having DxO and ON1 was to be to do simple edits.and tweaks. I have no desire or need for Photoshop. Lord knows what other surprises there are in ON1 and prgrams I will neee so I can not recommend it. to anyone at this point
  8. Does anyone have any comments on ON1 Raw vs, DxO Optics Pro 11?. I have the latter and am using a trial version of ON1 Raw. and debating whwter to get it. So far it seems that ON1 has these features that DxO does not , highlights, shadows, haze.
  9. <p><img src="http://s1296.photobucket.com/user/dms1954x/media/DSC_1524_DxO_zpslbewwywy.jpg.html?filters[user]=142383582&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=1" alt="" />Somehow I managed to get a small nick in the protective outer filter on my 200-400 mm. It shows up in some photos as a round 'blemish" . See attached photo. <br /> Is there any way to fix it? Some sort of filler like they do with nicks on windshields?<br> http://s1296.photobucket.com/user/dms1954x/media/DSC_1524_DxO_zpslbewwywy.jpg.html?filters[user]=142383582&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=1</p> <p><img src="http://s1296.photobucket.com/user/dms1954x/media/DSC_1524_DxO_zpslbewwywy.jpg.html?filters[user]=142383582&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=1" alt="" /></p>
  10. <p>I am getting used to my D500 after years of a D300. The hair trigger on the shutter release takes some getting used to as is figuring out the optimum AF settings for taking birds in flight. Right now I am using AF-C - release, focus tracking with lock -on - settings are in the middle, focus points 55 , focus point wraparound - off. I find it doesn't track a bird and keep it in focus as well as i thought it would. Am I doing something wrong? Suggestions?I ma using a Nikon 200-400mm usually at 5.6 or bigger</p>
  11. <p>I saw that website in my research but it requires an India mobile phone number. I have found some other free websites and posted on them. </p>
  12. <p>I am going to Delhi in Jan. and seeing as I can't sell my D300 body here, I thought I would take it and sell it there and use the rupees I get for other local items. Does anyone know of camera stores there that buy used equipment? What would a used D300 go for in a store in Delhi?</p>
  13. <p>Andrew, I received my first SLR when I was 13. I am now 62. So I am definitely not a compact camera with just one lens person. I graduated to the D500 from a D300. I primarily take bird photos with my 200 to 400 mm Nikon as well as macro photos with my 55 mm Nikon macro lens. I don't do enough other photography to justify prime lenses nor do I want on, a vacation, the hassle of having to swap out lenses on an ongoing basis. My next trip will probably be India on a nature photography tour in vehicles, on elephants and on the ground.<br> The 18 to 200 MM was great for my first DSLR, the D70s. But it no longer meets the grade for a D500 and was barely passable for the D 300. Hence the desire to upgrade to a much sharper lens. I think that I will do is test out the various suggestions and compare them to the 18 to 200 and see which one works best for me.</p>
  14. <p>I have an original version 18-200mm Nikon but find it too soft . What do people suggest as an all round zoom lens good for general shots and travel that will make best use of the my D500 ? I am open to full frame lenses and not just DX.</p>
  15. <p>Can anyone tell me about this tripod. I can pick it up for $200 CDN without a head. Is that good price?<br> I would use it with my Manfroto 363 head and my Nikon 200-400mm and D500. I am thinking about it as a much lighter replacement to my old heavy Benbo metal tripod.<br> How does this CF one compare to newer Manfrotto or other CF tripods?</p>
  16. <p>I am looking at a birding and nature trip to India in Jan. and want to see tigers as part of it. Does anyone know which would be the better park to see them, Jim Corbett National Park or Ranthambore National Park? The former also has wild elephants</p>
  17. <p>Thanks everyone for the tips.<br> In the land of the Cdn dollar, Lightroom is $229 plus taxes. I will ask DxO if I can use PSE8 first on them just for cataloging. They had previously told me that in order for Optics Pro 11 to handle the RAW files, the files can not be altered in any way, even by Nikon Transfer or View NX. I have to use Windows to transfer them to my computer.</p>
  18. <p>When I used PSE I could set up albums and sub albums and easily drag multiple photos from the work space to the album. . So if I wanted to look for a particular type of photo , eg eagle pics, I could find them easily by clicking on the album .<br> I now use DxO Optics Pro 11 but it does not have any similar feature. Short of setting up individual "album" files in Windows and then exporting each photo to the "album" file, which would have to be done individually I gather, what can I do?<br> I want this to be as simple as possible. And I don't want to spend $300 on Lightroom. To have to spend more time on my computer than I do taking the photos is not why I take photos.</p>
  19. <p>My DxO 10 is too old ? I just bought it last Dec. Version 11 only came out out a few months ago . Surely DxO , any version, should work on Nikon RAW files. The D500 is not using a new RAW format. It is after all a Nikon file. Why would it be any different than a RAW file out of any other Nikon camera?</p>
