This guy was guarding his territory while perched on a holly leaf in
front of my house. I shot the picture from inside the house with the
window and the window screen removed and my tripod set up next to my
computer! The house made an excellent blind; I also got photos of
several other birds from this vantage point.

Just a minor correction - this is not a Blue Jay, it is a Steller's Jay, and a nice capture as well. The details in the wing feathers are particularly well caught.
-
Focal length was 200 mm, and he was perhaps 4-5 feet away. The bird was on a tall perch with his eye level close to mine, and he wasn't moving around much, being quite used to people. The shot was handheld with no support other than my weak old arms.

This is a non-releasable bird at the local Wildlife Rescue
headquarters. He's much more personable than he looks...

I don't understand your comment. Thanks for looking, but what does your comment mean? (And, oh, BTW, this is a copyrighted photo...)

You guys are absolutely right! Since I have become a card-carrying (AARP) senior, I'm afraid that I have more or less forgotten about the high school variety of senior. My apologies to the photographer for my comment above, and I think it is a very fine photograph and very appealing. Shots like this should sell and be received very well.

I like the photo, and it's a nice look, but I would think you need to have a shot like this of an older person to use for advertising senior photos.

Linda,
I want to thank you for including one of my puffin pictures in your comment, but I would have liked to be credited for taking the shot you appended. For the record, this photo can be found in my photo.net portfolio in the "Puffins" folder.

Just a small comment: the last time I looked, Taos was in New Mexico, not Colorado as you have it listed in the details! Otherwise, I like the shot - nice framing and colors.

Kurt,
You are correct; this is Silverton. I would not care to tell you how many people corrected me on this when I put a print of this picture up at the NM Arts & Crafts Fair a couple of weeks ago! I need to change the name of the picture, too. I'll try that shortly. Thanks for the correction and the nice comment!
