    "Her Poise"

Beautifully captured and processed.  I suggest cropping some of the dark area on the right as an alternative as it does not add much to the overall impact.  But this is a minor suggestion for a very nice shot.

I echo all of the above, but my personal preference would be to have positioned the boy off to the left in the frame, if possible.  A minor suggestion for a nice piece of work.

Composition and high contrast/high key approach works very well here.  Unusual and striking.  I might be tempted to play with the linear catch light in her eye, but this is minor for a fine piece of work.

I love to shoot subjects like this.  I think many flowers and plants in general have more character in death than in life.  I recommend slightly increasing the contrast and darkening the levels to help eliminate the slight washed out look.  I would also try playing with the saturation a little to see if you can bring out more color contrast.  The shallow DOF works well here and adds depth to the image.

Exposure and sharpness are very good and the lighting is diffuse enough to see in the shadowed areas.  And I also like the water drops on the petals.  But your background is much too busy and does not encourage attention on the main subject.  A shallower DOF might have helped somewhat, but you would still have the hot bright areas on the left.  My preference would have been to place a backdrop, like a black cloth, behind the flower to eliminate the busy background.

Wow, this really grabbed my attention and held it.  I love the feeling of motion, especially with the clouds parallel to, and motion blur of, the truck.  Excellent sense of distance yet to be travelled provided by the vanishing road.  Colors and composition are great.  A fine piece of work.

    Light ice

Striking image with a lot to hold my interest.  A slight improvement might be to have positioned yourself, if possible, a little more the left allowing more of the sunlit rock, now mostly hidden by the icicle on the right, to be visible.  A minor suggestion for a fine, and unusual, piece of work.

The simplicity adds a great deal to this.  I wish for a little post processing enhancement to reduce or eliminate the washed out look, especially for the women's garment, and a little more sharpness.  Regardless, this is a fine photograph that not only conveys a mood, but tells a story.  That makes it very successful in my book.

I'm hoping this is not a composite as I think it would have more impact knowing it is real.  Quite interesting and has good impact.  The combined contrasts of sharpness, angles, and purpose of the two structures is striking.  Very nice work.

I too have found these interesting subjects.  The lighting on this is distracting for me, though. Half is in sunlight and half is in shade, creating two distinct images.  The background is also too busy and the inclusion of a large part of the log adds busyness.  Perhaps just focusing your frame on the part in the shade with just a bit of the log for context might help.

The water drops on the window add interest.  The shallow dof works very well here.  My only problem is the distraction in the background caused by the other similar subject (or reflection?)  If it were offset from the main subject it might work, but as it is it's a distraction.  But I do like the overall simplicity of this photo and the added interest provided by the water drops.

  1. In my younger days my friends and I camped out once at a river in Arizona.  At night scorpion hunters showed up with black lights and captured the many scorpions on the rocks near our sleeping bags.  A little disconcerting to say the least.

This image has great impact and I love the detail.  The contrasting colors adds a great deal.  Nice work.

    An icy image

Nice abstract in nature.  It's a little busy for my taste, but interesting all the same.  My eye is drawn to the lower branch and it's reflection which carries my eye out of the frame, but I'm not sure what you could have done to avoid this.

  2. I like this one much better than the other one I commented on.  The rocks here lead my eye into the photo and individually have interesting shapes.  The blurred water effect is very effective.  My only suggestion is to remove the line of rocks intruding into the frame on the upper right to better simplify the image and remove a distracting element.  Again, good tonal range.

    West Bay Mono

Good tonal range but the main subject is rather uninteresting, appearing to be a smattering of exposed, shapeless mud & rocks.  A single boat, person, pier, etc., or other prominent object would hold my interest more.  I like the minimalist B&W approach very much.

    Bay Bridge

My personal preference is to see much less of the HDR effect.  It appears too cartoonish to me.  Also, the horizon placed directly in the center does not help.  Try cropping out some of the sky so that the horizon is placed further toward the top of the frame.  It's a good choice of scene but it needs some work.

    The Fisher

Impressive work.  I can't imagine the patience required to capture something like this.  The position of the wings and the eyes looking straight into the lens make this very special.
