I too have found these interesting subjects.  The lighting on this is distracting for me, though. Half is in sunlight and half is in shade, creating two distinct images.  The background is also too busy and the inclusion of a large part of the log adds busyness.  Perhaps just focusing your frame on the part in the shade with just a bit of the log for context might help.
