I use the Plustek 7200.
-
I managed to get a fantastic looking 16x20 print off of some sensia 100 slide film scanned with this scanner.
-
Well you can always order larger prints... I get mine from whcc.com
Anyway, it is the general expectation that Canon will release new bodies at the conferance next month (feb)... so I would play the waiting game.
-
Uhh it would more than a few ounces, closer to a few pounds.
Anyway, there are some external hard drives with built in compact flash readers.
Or you could just bring a laptop along.

The grand canyon image was processed at a local camera store and the girl was processed at a Walgreens(drug store). Funny thing though is that my film from Walgreens was much less scratched that the film from my local store.
-
Les, it was strongly backlit. In fact the sun is just out of frame in the upper left hand corner. I do agree though that the image has a substantial amount of grain, but I did not alter the brightness. All I did was to remove scratches/dust.
This image http://claytonman.com/images/texastech/girl2.jpg at 7200x5700 was also scanned in, but the film used was Fuji 400 (I think it was provia, but I am not sure..)
Here is a 100% crop of it.. http://claytonman.com/images/texastech/girl2foot.jpg

Well I scan that high so I can get 11x14's at 300dpi. I know I still make the images smaller, but I like to get as much information out of the photo as I can.

It appears that I am quite possibly the only on the on this fourm
that has one of these scanners so I thought I would post an example of
what it can do.
The following photo was scanned in at 7200 x 5719, the negative was
Fuji Reala 100.

This scanner is not as user friendly as the Dimage IV (I have used the
Dimage briefly), but I can get very good looking prints out of this
little machine. I have 11x14 prints that are pretty darn good looking.
Anyway, I just thought I would post this for the good of this fourm.

I own the Plustek 7200, and the 11x14 prints look really good (negatives). Although it has the resolution to go to 16x20 I am afraid of how it may look.
-
Well I am probably the only one on this site with the Plustek 7200, it does a good job. I can post examples of images scanned if requested.
-
Well you wont be able to do any real enlargements, not beyond the original size.
-
I happen to have 2 74gb raptors in Raid0, the performance is excellent.
Mine maintain 110mb/s read speed through out the length of the drive.
One raptors read speed tops out at around 70mb/s.
-
Well the resolution that is offered for that $2.88 is only big enough for you to print out a 4x6. Hardly worth it in my opinion.
-
Well I have decided to get the Plustek. I have access to the Minolta so I will post a definitive comparasion between the two sometime over my Christmas break.
-
Which is the better scanner through image quality? Thats really my question.
-
I am currently in the market for a 35mm film/negative scanner. My
budget is fairly tight. I was wondering what everyone thinks about the:
Plustek OpticFilm 7200
Konica Minolta Scan Dual IV
The Plustek has the better specs (at 7200dpi), but I have a hard time
finding someone with personal experiance with it.
I would like to have the option to print at about 11x14.
Thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
-
I hope that too, but I already have a polarizing filter which I leave attached.
-
My mistake, I bought Reala.
-
I ended up buying 6 Velvia 100 rolls. I do however have 5 rolls of Gold 200, I can use those as back up.
Any particular setting's (shutter/f-stop) recomendations?
-
Yes, I am planning on taking my light weight tripod with me.
-
Well I would like to make some decent sized enlargements and from what I understand slide film is better for that. However, I am afriad to mess up the exposures and ruin the slides.
-
I am going to the Grand Canyon, specifically the Tanner Trail on the
South Rim. I would like to hear suggestions as to what type of film to
use. I am a relativly inexperienced, I would take to heart any
suggestions you might have.
The Camera that I will be using is a Canon Elan 7n with a 50/1.8 lens.
I will be there for about 5 days.

Here is just a basic question.
Which can be enlarged more; 35mm negatives or slide?
