1.
Well it depends. Slides still have more resolution than even the 5dII you just have to have the right scanner. I used the plustek 7200.
however, negatives are not very good at higher resolutions.
Noise is an issue. Incidentally, I'm the guy in the texas tech shirt.

Both were shot with 100 speed film... probably fuji. I don't recall much more than that.

I am a digital man now, film was just a huge hassle and expensive.

 2.
Sean your logic is flawed.

The 450d is just a 400d that costs more and take up more space on memory cards.
The 450 is just a 1000d that costs more and take up more space on memory cards.
The 400d is just a 350d that costs more and take up more space on memory cards.

~50% more pixels - digic IV - better screen - etc

More space on memory cards is a good thing. If my old 128mg card was still $200 then maybe it would be a bad thing; but I can buy a udma 8192meg card for ~$50 now.

 3.
For hiking with a pack the weight difference is fairly minimal.

I did the grand canyon with my elan7n with battery grip. The camera wasn't a problem carrying. The thing that got heavy was my crap heavy tripod.

 4.
1st year law student here.

What you have here is a classic "illusory promise" and not enforceable.

Next time agree on compensation, not on an imaginary future bonus of unknown value.

Apparently you were on the clock while you were doing this shoot? If so you have no case at all. If not you might be able to get back two days worth of salary. But honestly its probably not even worth the court costs let alone the attorney fee's.

 5.
I was in the same boat and chose the 50d.

Initially based on specs alone, I was going to choose the XSI. I said to myself, "is the 50d really worth two XSI's?"

I went to Best Buy and a traditional camera store so I could handle it untethered (the 50d actually felt significantly lighter without bestbuys security junk on it).
I was able to easily and quickly adjust ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture on the 50d. Not so much on the XSI. Contrary to common belief, a heavier camera is typically easier to keep steady.
Personally, I like to shoot in full manual all the time so being able to easily adjust is important to me. I didn't want to buy a camera that I would regret buying because of its inability to do something

By the way, just listening to the 50d rapid shooting was highly impressive.

Good luck. Though, like others if your budget only allows for a XSI and a good lens vs the 50d and just the kit lens I would suggest getting the XSI.

 6.
Someone may come around with a better answer than me, but the only lens that I've found that meets your hardware desires costs about what you probably paid for your 50d.
Its the Canon 24-70mm f2.8L its going for $1190 new at b&h.

I have a 50d coming in the mail thursday. My lens setup is: 50 1.8, canon 10-22, and the 70-200 f4L.
The 50 1.8 becomes a portrait lens (around 85mm on the 50d), the 10-22 is my landscape lens, and the 70-200 is my semi-telephoto lens. The 50 1.8 is the best lens you can buy for under $100.

I entered a contest, none of my photos made into the final round, but I was surprised that this photo did.

To me a photo with color can not be a black and white photo.

I'm just wondering what you all think.

I have some issues with other photo's that made it to the final round... but this is my biggest complaint.

 8.
I think I am going to wait a month for the PMA to be over with to see if Canon announces the 500d. Some websites seem to think that it is likely. I've pretty much settled on getting the 10-22 and if canon announces a price increase I might just buy the lens before buying the camera.
I'd hate to buy the 450d and have its replacement announced or released a month later.

 9.
Currently, I own a canon G9 and a Elan7n.

I do not use my Elan7n anymore because getting the film developed and scanning it in is just a huge hassle. I'm also wondering what I might be able to sell my elan7n/with battery grip for?

Right now I have a 50 1.8 and the 70-200f4L lenses in my arsenal along with a 430ex flash.

I haven't yet handled the 450d, but I understand it to be on the smaller side. I believe the elan7 is on par with the 40/50d as far as size goes.

Which brings me to whats eating at me right now. For the price of the 450d and the 10-22, I could buy a 50d or a 50d with a cheaper kit lens.
I like shooting Landscapes the most.

I'm just wondering what you all think. Thanks.
