  1. "With the later versions of PSE you can also use Layers for added control in your editing" Actually all versions of PSE had the Layers function, but not as sophisticated, or as powerful as Photoshop. Later versions added more features...
  2. Photoshop Elements, depending on the version you have, has about 80% of the functions of it's big brother Photoshop. Although some functions might not work as well or as efficiently. PSE has multiple Selection tools that let you isolate certain parts of your image for easy editing. With the later versions of PSE you can also use Layers for added control in your editing. This is what sets it appart from Apple Photos and other basic/consumer software editing packages. PSE does not hog up as much space on your hard drive as Photshop does, but it is still a highly bloated software compared to its competitors. On the other hand, Photos is is a photo management and editing application developed by Apple. It was released as a bundled app in iOS 8 on September 17, 2014 and does not take up as much space, or does it use as much resources as PSE. If you like to edit photos on the fly on your iPhone or iPad Photos is not bad actually. I use it on the job to edit my real estate photos and the results are outstanding. The only thing, is like I said it does not have Layers, or Selection tools for more complicated edits. Since Photos is bundled with IOS the editing is highly efficient and it can also make you photos look really good, almost like the backlit images you see on the back LCD on your camera.

  4. If you have an air-conditioner you set at it at 68 F degrees then you can work at room temperature. I
  5. "Does this feature have a place in street photography?" Sure it does. Lets say you are taking pictures of a Parade with people comming towards you. Its easier to let the camera do the focusing instead of having to press the shutter button constantly to get good focus. I use it at weddings when the wedding party is walking down the isle. Never used it for street photography though.
  6. Ben your post are like reading a novel of War and Peace . Whjat exactly are you asking here ?
  7. Despite Canon owning 50% of the camera market, they still lag Nikon when it come to Professional cameras. Not by much I think it's 28% to 20%, or something like that ? I purchased a used older model Nikon diigital camera(D7000) a few years ago, just so I could use my extensive collection of Manual Nikkor lenses. Most of my Nikkor lenses are AIs with a few being just AI, so they work perfectly on my D7000. Older lenses don't fare that well. Nikon also incorporated a Range-Finder on some of their cameras, to make it easier to focus since most digital cameras don't have a split viewfinder focusing screen.

  9. Fixed !! I had to use Ghetto Mechanics to finally solve this problem. I used a simple tack-nail to bore into the remaining plastic clip. First I had to heat the tack-nail with a cigarette lighter to make it easier for it to bore through the hard plastic. After it dried, I was able to move the clip up and down just as if the plasic arm of the clip had not been broken off. It seems pretty stabe ? There was an SBH-320 selling on eBay with metal clip for $99, but I was hesitant being that this is an older model ball-head...
  10. I just compared the Nikkor 35mm f2.8 against my newly aquired 35mm AF f2. Keep in mind that I do not have an official 'Focus Calibration Chart', or do I get into extreme pixel-peeping like some reviewers do. What I use is a simple wall calendar, a wall clock, some books siiting inside a bookshelf and various labeled bottles placed a few inches appart. The camera used for testing was my Nikon D7000 Digital SLR. I used the pop-up flash to avoid any differences in light gathering. Just as I thought, the newer 35mm AF F2 is sharper and more contrasty than the older 35mm f2.8, but not by much. The AF lens also renders colors a bit better, but at the same time looking more clinical. The manual lens on the other hand, seems a tad warmer and 'fuzzier' which gives it that 'legacy look' with character. These tests were done in my living room in a controlled environment. So I will have to see how both lenses perform in real life. One thing, even with the Range Finder in the D7000, the 35mm f2.8 is very hard to focus, unless using a tripod.
  11. Wow, good piece of Detective work !
  12. It's sort of a High-key shot which adds mystery/aura to the photo, but like others said, a wider crop would have made it more impactful..
  13. For a fakes they look pretty good. Not sure how they work though ?
  14. I can't believe how much better version 8 is than my older version 5. I just downloaded it to one of my computers, but now I think I will download it to my main computer. The interface is totally changed although the tools seem to be about the same. The good thing with this version is that the edit window is the same size as the original. In the older version the edit window was like a small pop-up and it was hard to see the changes applied to the original. This is much better !
  15. A change of venue can sometimes do the trick. Go on a small vacation, preferably a 4-day weekend. It doesn't have to be at some exotic place overseas either. You would be surprised of whats available 20, 50 or 100+ miles away from your home. Bring your gear with you especially the gear you are not familiar with or want to test.
  16. No, I use to own the 35mm PC, but traded it to a Photo.net member for a couple of Large Format lenses. Maybe I should have used the word "Distortion" instead of perspective control. This is what Ken Rockwell says about the Nikkor 35mm f2.8 AI-s. Similar statements can be found throughout the web. Distortion The distortion is among the lowest I've seen on Nikon wide angle lenses and zooms. It's almost invisible, and requires deliberate effort and a straight edge on my monitor to see it. Distortion appears to be at a minimum at about 2 meters (7 feet), and increases at closer distances. Plug these figures into Photoshop's lens distortion filter to correct the distortion. These aren't facts or specifications, they are the results of my research that requires a lot of data collection and computation. 17. Amazing and for only $1339 !! I remember years ago agonizing on how I was ever going to be able to afford the Coolscan 9000. If I remember correctly it was significantly more expensive than the 5000. In any case, I opted for the Epson V750 flatbed and the Pacific Image Xe(dedicated 35mm) scanners. I rarely shoot film anymore, but when/if I do, these do an adequate job.
  18. "BTW, to @hjoseph7 in looking this morning, I did not run across a single Nikon 35mm f/1.4 priced at $150. Most were $250-400..." Not sure where I saw this, or 'If' I even saw this ? It could be my eyes were playing tricks on me, or the seller listed it wrong ? I know for sure that this lens was selling brand new on B&H for $600+, used about $300+. It is one of Nikon's Legendary lenses, not to be confused with the Nikkor 35mm f2.8, which is the one I have. The f2.8 gets mediocre reviews accross the board. Not sure why I purchased it, probably to fill that 'holy-trinity' void of Wide/Normal/Tele, when I was stocking up on lenses. The only good thing I heard about the f2.8 is that it is really good when it comes to 'perspective control', which is great for architecture and stuff like that. As a matter of fact i was thinking about testing it against my newly aquired 35mm F2 AF in a head-to-head comparison today to see which one comes out on top.
  19. Didn't think I would see another Nikon Coolscan post. They use to come up regularly in the past, but I thought they were finally extinct...
  20. I stumbled upon the Epson RD1 today while surfing the web. I never knew that Epson produced cameras. What is even more surprising a Digital rangefinder camera ! This camera came out in 2003-2004, prior to the Leica M8 which came out in 2007, but it still comands a hefty price on the Used market. It has become one of those 'Holy-Grail' cameras, extremely rare, with a mysterious Cult following. Too bad it was discontinued in 2007... https://cameralegend.com/2022/05/02/the-epson-r-d1-202216-year-review/
  21. The Monitor Calibration tool I use is SpectraView II which prompts me to calibrate my monitor every so often(too often). If I was doing a lot of printing, I guess these prompts would come in handy, but since I use my computer for other purposes such as: cooking recipes, youtube videos, The news, sports, various forums, these prompts to calibrate my monitor are very annoying. I guess that when my next printing session comes around, I will calibrate my monitor using Spectra View, but right now I'm not motivated to do so. When photography become too complicated and technical, then it's not Photography anymore, it's Math. Sorry I could not be of much help...
