I came out to ask myself this question because I see less and less constructive critiques on PN
That's a truth. The simplest way - and maybe the only one - to receive constructive critiques is to leave constructive critiques. And I'd even add that you need to leave several constructive critiques to receive at least one.
If you can make an active circle of *friends*, that's obviously the best. For this, you need to find photograhers with some common points with you.
Good luck.

The problem here, I think, is that we could take an honest 3/3 (I have a lot and still can sleep) as good but how do we know it is honest?
By the same way we know - at least we like to imagine - 4s, 5s, 6s and obviously 7s ratings are. Looks like ALL ratings are honest else 3s ones. How simply and logical it is.

I don't like to receive low ratings on a shot I think good but well, what can I do? I prefer to forget these futile numbers and to be more active on photo.net by leaving ratings I think honest (logical, isn't it?) and writing comments/critiques.

To answer Nick's post, I'm not sure that members are more able to leave deserved ratings than free users. The difference between both these photo.net users is only 25$, not at all photographic abilities.

  3. (from France) using PN is a bit strange these days: either quite fast or not at all with bugs (and I'm using a good 8Gb DSL). BTW, looks like admins aren't often online at this moment, sure the problem will be fixed as soon they'll be back.
