1.
a bit strange, i bought a D700 the day before Christmas 2008 in Europe , and serial nr starts with 2131 with 3 additional digits. I am curious what is the current series of serial numbers being produced .....
Maybe B&H does not apply "first in first out" principle for products ..........
Als my camera had version 1.00 firmware .... did the update myself.
Best greetings.

 2.
Haggai,
do you have the user manuals that belong with the RZ67 ? These can be downloaded free from internet. I purchased a used RZ67 PRO II recently , and the first thing i did was to download the manuals. I think you need these to operate the camera correctly.
Please see enclosed the link for downloads :

Best greetings

 3.
Doug, i think in alternative you could try to get a second hand Hasselblad slide projector. I see these for around 1200 eurs in Europe, and these should be available at comparable prices in US.
The quality of projection with this projector is very very good, and i am convinced that current available digital projectors do not meet this quality yet.

I have experience with high-end Barco projectors, and the digital images must be resized to much smaller sizes for projection. I have not seen affordable 16mega pixel projectors yet.

Best greetings

00TWpC-139871784.jpg.58c497504abb93823172fc52c22e5708.jpg

 4.
I would suggest to have some macro rings added to the macro lens, it will help you to use the macro lens with more distance to the subject. The current AF macro rings are not expensive, i enjoy them a lot. ( I mean the ones between the body and the lens .....)
The AF105 2.8D Micro is a very nice lens, mine is ot equipped with image stabilisation, but i will not replace it.
Best greetings for Pentacoste

 5.
Gents,
i bought my D700 just before Christmas 2008. By than it was 1999 eurs in most stores, and sometimes a very short offer for 1 or 2 days at redicilous prices. One store in a provence sold it for 1599, for 5 days, and i heard a rumour nobody bought for this price because nobody believed it was true. I paid 1849, special offer from a large retail chain in electronics products.
The good thing was , in the product description it was described to be delivered with Cap NX2 full version, and it was delivered like that. Taking of the pricce of the software i think i paid a very decent price. At that time i still had the D300 that i sold quite fast afterwards.

Now the big question : How do i think of this after 6 months : I am more than expected pleased with the D700, the image quality results are beyond expectation. I shoot in raw, and convert with Capture NX2. I use decent glass, and have the 3 zoom lenses most people have or had on their wish list, plus some other nikon lenses.
I still have a brand new 17-35 2.8 / 4.0 Sigma lens, but it is no comparison with the 17-35 from Nikon, so you get what you pay for, if i can sell the Sigma for 250 eurs i would do immediately.
The price differences in shops in europe is huge. Example : 500 meters from my house the SB-900 has a price tag of 549 eurs, in other shops, i mean real shops, not internet advertisements, it is between 329 and 349 eurs ..... so looking around and doing your homework before putting the cash on the counter can save a lot, and give you possibility to buy some more filters or a decent tripod ... I also noticed that since Christmas the prices of both camera's and lenses are rising a bit, just end-of-life products have lower prices offcourse.
I am sure that price differences like these can be found all around the world, some big chains are less greedy due to higher volumes ....and less service on decent advise before selling
I hope i have not stepped on somebody's toes with this comment
Enjoy a nice Pentacoste

 6.
Gent's,
i am a long long time member of the photo.net community, and would never write something that has not been checked or double checked. The original Nikon MB-D10 is for sale at KameraExpress in the Netherlands, including taxes for 149.95 eur.
Website WWW.KameraExpress.nl
http://kamera-express.nl/index.php?page=product&product=22183 for the mb-d10 page.
It is indicated to be on sale at this moment.
for those who want to check......

I am also a long time customer from Peter, the shop owner, and can recommend him. I think he also does a lot of package deliveries overseas. So if you are interested, contact them via the website.
I bought the MB-D10 with my D300 that i sold, after having bought the D700. I use it a lot, to have extended batery life. When using a tripod, i remove the MB-D10 because the fitting on the tripod is more tight.
THere is a little play between the body and the MB-D10, and this is noticeable with longer or heavier lenses.

Best greetings, and may i have your trust with future comments from my side ......
7.
A genuine Nikon MB-D10 costs Eur 149.95 in the Netherlands at this moment .... so the difference with a third party grip would be to small to make it interesting any way in my opinion if all above comments are taken in consideration

 8.
Bea Trice,
many congratulations with your first assignment as official wedding photographer.
Make a beautiful wedding series and things will be allright.
Prepare yourself very well to the assignment and concentrate on your job.
I am curious if we can see 1 picture when you are finished ......
Best greetings

 9.
Yesterday, before hearing about the big tragedy in the Netherlands during the celebration of queensday, i was walking around in the city of Utrecht, taking pictures of people celebrating the 100st birthday of our former queen Juliana. During this day i have used the D700 with 24-70.
I like to share 2 pictures with the people here that had questions on the performance of this lens.
I am very happy with the lens quality.

00TE0a-130283584.thumb.jpg.bb55754febe28e81119d1cb19fc44702.jpg

 10.
At this moment my Micro Nikkor 70-180 is on the D700.
Tomorrow, April 30, my country, Netherlands, celebrates the birthday of the queens mum. I will go to a city and take pictures of people that try to sell whatever you can think of, and celebrating with our national drink .... lots of beer, ....
For this i will bring my 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200. Perhaps will bring the 17-35, to check if there is a lot of difference between the two wide angle zooms .... My guess is that i will use the 24-70 and 70-200 most of the time .....

 11.
in general the nikon serial number for lenses is written with very small numbers on the side of the diafragm ring, opposite side of the ring where the diafragm numbers are written.
I need to take my glasses of to be able to read the number, it is very small engraved numbers.
if you follow with your eye the line where the lenscap on the back is mounted against the diafragm ring when the lenscap is on the lens, you should find the serial number.
i am rather sure it is the same for the 105 DC.
Best greetings, and i hope you will not regret selling this beautiful lens

 12.
Simpel. make a picture with the D200, put the card with the picture in the cardreader of your computer , and download an exif view program. look with the exifview program at the picture you made and in the details you can see the number of actuations of the shutter in total. There are many exif viewers available as freeware on the internet. have a look, and success.

 13.
Please share with the readers what camera body you are using with this lens.
I made some panorama in 2004 with a D100 using a 35 mm AF D 2.0 lens, very simple solutions.
With my D300 i would have used the same lens.
With the D700, i think i would try either the 50 or 85.
I do have the 24 70 2.8G, and i agree it is a bit problematic with panorama's ....
My preference for panoramic work on tripod with corrected point of connection, is definitely with fixed focal length lenses, on manual focus setting. Also Capture NX2 is a great help to get the correct development of raw images to compose pananorama's.
Best greetings

 14.
Alejandro,
nice to read that there are still fellow photographers that use the Pentax 67.
I was a big fan of Fuji NPH 400 for prints, and Ilford FP4 for black and white prints.
May i ask what lenses you will use ?
For fashion in my opinion the 165 2.8 and 200 4.0 last generation lenses are very nice. Also the 165 with shutter could be useful when using flash in environment with bright illumination.
Best greetings

 15.
Noah, i own the 20mm AF 2.8 D for a long time, and many times have been disappointed by the distortion from this lens. For a full frame camera i would try to test some lenses, and select the best one from own experience.
Just ask a shop if you can take a picture in their store from something with straight lines ......

 16.
i like to add : check that the rubber protectionpads on the body have not shifted. My D200 had this problem , and i found out that many D200's suffered from this. You can check this by rotating the front dial for adjustments. When the rubber padding is not in place anymore it will run against the front dial. Not a major problem, but it should be fixed. And check if the sensor is clean, easy done by taking a picture from the sky and check on a pc screen to see if there is durt ......

 17.
Janne,
the price of the 67 II has come down a lot in the past years, if you can find a nice used one it is much better in use as the previous model. The prism is also a great improvement.
The lens quality of the modern pentax lenses is really good.
If you would start with a camera like this, i would advise to buy a 55mm, a 90, and a 165 or 200 to start with. I own the pentax 67II since 1998 i think or 1999, and could never part from it.
Fort traveling it is rather heavy. I remember walking around 1 day with the camera and the 3 lenses in Milan in Italie, and my shoulders and back really hurted after a day :-)
But i also shot some very beautiful slides in the famous cathedral in Milan with shutter speeds of 8 seconds, just putting it on a seat in the cathedral using the 55 mm lens.
Last advice, if you buy lenses, try to get the latest version 2nd hand .....
Best greetings.

 18.
May i say thanks to Arthur Yeo here for his advise for color management in Firefox ?
It was very easy to install the add-on, and made me a very happy person today.
Arthur Yeo : Thank you !!!!!

I am very curious when Nikon would launch the 24 megapixel version of the so called D700 upgrade ..., The D700 itself came as a big surprise, and i would be interested in a more pixel version.
But the more pixel version is for prints only for me ....

 19.
I owned a Makina 67 with the Nikkor 80 2.8, and regret i ever sold it. By now it is a collectors camera, and must say that the mechanism for getting the lens in position for taking pictures, and storing back in the body is a bit fragile. On e of my all time favorite pictures however was made with the Makina 67. The lens quality in my opinion was very good.
A Makina 67 would cost a decent amount of money today in western europe. My guess is around 1500 eurs at least.
For this price today, i would suggest to buy a Mamiya 7 II with the 80mm lens.
I remember there were also versions with the 55 2.8 nikkor indicated with 67W , and the later 670 versions. The build in lightmeter was spot type, and very accurate.
A Fuji 6x9 with something like a 05mm lens is still also on my list for next Christmas ... :-)

 20.
Please also take in consideration that the CF30 mm is a fisheye lens, it gives very different results with respect to lineair lines when compared with CF40 FLE. Just a reminder .....
I reasure the Hasselblad CF optics very much ..... and hope they can be used for many many more years.
