1.
Dear fellow photographers,
yesterday was the day, D-day.
I was in the mood to make the first pictures with my D800.
I went to Limburg, south part of the Netherlands, unfortunately the weather was gray, but no rain fortunately.
In the end of the afternoon i ended up with one of my friends at Margraten War Cemetary, i have taken pictures there several times before. I just took a few shots to test the D800, and arriving at home i was impressed with the new beast, to say the least. Please notice that we as photograpers also do consider this location as holy grouds, and try to express this in our pictures.

The are 2 images i would like to share with you.
One is the complete picture, and one is a detail.
When we viewed the image at first, we thought there was a dust particle in the image, when zooming in to 100% it proved to be an insect.
I hope people will appreciate the attached picture, made with 70-200 2.8 VR I, at 110mm wide open.

 2.
Now i do have my D800, but will not be able to use it because of the battery, that belongs to the bad series......
Life is great ......
Nikon promised to deliver a new battery within 5 days after May 1st.
On April 30 we celebrate the birthday of our queen with huge parties ... it will be tempting to use the D800 on that day ... The chance that something happens with the battery is very little, but better safe than sorry ...

 3.
Please be aware that you need to re-enter your serial number after installing the new Camera Control Pro 2.10

i just experienced this, fortunately after searching the Capture NX2 serial number, like another member here, my serialnumber for Camera Control was at hand.

 4.
May i ask if there are Nikonistas here that use the gigapan unit with their Nikon ?
I am interested to know how you attach the Gigapan to your tripod, if you use a head on the tripod, and what camera you are using. Not only curious, i want to attach my Nikon camera in such a way that i have least problems with long heavy lenses, like the Sigma 150-500, or the Nikon 200mm 2.0 . My camera's are D3X and D7000
My tripod is a Gitzo mountaineer G1349 MK II. Mounting the Gigapan unit directly to the mid column was not a good idea, the screw loosens sometimes, with major risks to damage the camera and the unit.
At this moment i am experimenting with a Manfrotto 410 head. My major concern is the height of the head. For stability i would like to mount the gigapan unit as close to the tripod as possible.
I also prefer to use a quicl release system, so it is easy to setup the system.
Please let me know your reactions, many thanks in advance.

 5.
Tim,
if my memory serves well, the 645 Pentax camera's have a battery inside that needs to be exchanged every few years. I had 2 Pentax 645 camera's in the past, and this has always been one of my worries. Maybe you can find an online manual, where it is possible stated that the battery must be replaced by the Pentax Service department..... This could be a cause of not functioning ...

 6.
Also for me it took a while to fin the disks with the keys, although they were within 1 meter from my keyboard. I remember to have put all the disks from Nikon in the NX2 box, but the box was empty ....... the disks were in the book case ....now are back in the NX2 box, i learned from your message

 7.
ere should be many F5 available second hand in EX+++ condition, many photographers bought these, and really handled these very careful ......
I bought one for approx 300 eur in beautiful condition ....i guess 2 years ago or so

 8.
I have just been able to try tethering, and confirm this also works with the P-7000 using D7000.
So the Epson P-7000 can be considered as being still up to date.
I hope this info can be useful for others, perhaps when considering to buy equipment second hand.

 9.
OK, let me answer myself and share the experience: The firmware update was a piece of cake, just follow the instructions, and now the P7000 can show D7000 images in raw also. I have not had the opportunity to try tethering, but i would not be surprised if this works also well now ..... funny little tool the P7000 ...

One remark : The P7000 can read SDHC memory cards, but not the high capacity SDXC.
I tried with a transcend 64GB, and the P7000 reports that it is not formatted in the correct way.

 10.
Hello fellow Nikon users,
Anyone here that has tried raw images from Nikon D7000 in Epson P-7000 viewer with the new firmware 2.51 ?
Anyone tried tethering with P-7000 and D7000 ?
I am very curious to know if P-7000 is used by nikon owners ...
I will install the firmware 2.51 in the P-7000 tonight and share my experiences later.
Firmware 2.51 is available at the Epson website:
11.
what you should absolutely be careful with is lens change in that area.
I was so stupid to change my lenses on a D200, and there is so much moist in the air that i ended up with some tiny drops on the filter on the sensor of the D200, although i tried to be very careful with changing lenses. I had to bring the camera to a specialist company to have it cleared.
On all my pictures the drops were visible after the lens change.
Please take my advise and try not to change lens in open air in the area close to the Niagara falls.

 12.
Yesterday it was queensday in the Netherlands, celebration of the birthday of our queens mum.
I went to the forests near Apeldoorn to try to make a picture on 8mm with the 8-16.

One remark, the D7000 is a lovely camera, i treasure it already very much, although i have a D3X as well.
I hope i will be able to attacth one of the pictures from yesterday ...

00Yet2-353901584.thumb.jpg.4b07dec2bedaa0deb9c2dc5cee3437c6.jpg

 13.
Shun,
i am one of the forum members that has a way too large lens collection. I do also own the 14-24, and the 12-24 DX lens. THe 8-16 was purchased out of curiosity, and i am very happy with it. The 14-24 is a bit heavy to carry around for 3 sequential days. I also have a lot of fun with the 10.5 2.8 :-)
But i do appreciate the quality of the lenses and will use the 14-24 more often with FF camera.
Compliments for your contributions to this forum.

 14.
I do have noted the comment, but 8mm was to wide for the Aya Sophia from my standpoint ..... However, i would like to share 1 more picture with the forum.

The quality of the Sigma 8 - 16 with nikon D7000 has pleasantly surprised me .
I wish i could share the raw picture .....

00YeI6-353217584.jpg.991f7a82f63807696c506a7e297bceac.jpg

 15.
I was in Istanbul in past days and had the opportunity to use my D7000 with the Sigma 8-16 zoom.

Many people ask questions here if a certain lens will be a good choice with a specific camera.
Well i want to share a picture made with D7000 and Sigma 8-16 zoom.
The picture was size reduced in Photoshop.
The picture shows the internal of the Aya Sophia museum.
Picture data : 800 iso, F8, 1/20 sec, 13mm

00Ycll-351667584.jpg.c56242b8baa591a8177ef976bfbb8171.jpg

 16.
I own the D700 also, and never experienced this problem.
Contrary to the previous answers, i would suggest to clean the contacts on the lens and the contacts in the bajonet that connect to the lens. Do not use any spray stuff for cleaning !! In case of doubt , visit a Nikon store and ask them to clean the contacts ...

 17.
After reading these messages and the links provided i feel tempted to try this with my D3X .... just for fun ....

I enjoy reading about the many creative projects people do with their digicams.
On my wishlist is also still some lensbabies stuff

Maybe some of you would think it is crazy to do the pinhole stuff with a D3X .... but i think it will be fun.
