    Fog & Frost 2

The lavender is nice. The color noise in the sky (at least on my screen) gives a dappled, impressionistic overlay. The bright yellow/orange trunks is a nice complement to the wintry canopy.

    Untitled

The motion is great with the cloudy top and the dark, more detailed sides directing the path. Just enough detail to tell the story.
  4. Joy. Agreed that the soft touch and vignette frames the shot. I'm sure that the larger version reveals crisp toothy grins and distinct twinkles.
  5. I agree with Carlos. The white square is a jarring visual element that actually strengthens the other quadrants via contrast. Had the white square been filled, it would be a cluttered, ho-hum shot. The smaller white portion to the upper right adds as well, as does the downward left slope of the awning beneath it.

Such adept use of orange. The portrait on the back makes a spooky accompaniment. So does the raven.
  7. His expression is curious, slightly guarded, slightly amused, half-connected, half-distracted. The accoutrements of city life frame him well. My eye is drawn to the woman in the face mask and the cop with the reflective band on his hat. The opening of his jacket reveals a white color and sliver of shirt. It makes me think of the sky cut into pieces above him.

    Boots on a Train

The haloing on the floor is a great touch. Somewhat spiritual, even though the floor is dirty and those boots are shabby. I like how you've captured the strips of aluminum behind the boots, which orders the composition. But those boots seem like a portrait, so expressive are they.

    Bone

I heard Alec Soth speak last year and was inspired by both his storytelling and by his use of drab and grayed color to enhance the mood. Saul Leiter and Helen Frankenthaler are also inspirations. This was a stop on my old paper route 30-plus years ago, unchanged except for the kids' paraphernalia. I think the same dog barked at me, and I got some shouts from the folks up and down the street who seemed paranoid about this stranger wandering around with a camera. Life always intrudes. The kids are in tennis, soccer, and track. I'm always in the car dropping them off or picking them up. Work keeps me busy. Gone are the days of kids napping for a couple hours while I tinker around on PN.
  10. I like this one. Super cool juxtaposition. A lot to ponder. I won't spoil it with words.

  13. You get a crispness and clinical precision that I don't seem able to capture. Camera or operator? Hmmm. The pops of red press for a circular read. Then I take a horizontal stroll through the blues and greens from left to right. Then I see the content and wonder what the hell they're looking at. But that's only after the color prods me in the back and ushers me through the shot.

    After the snow fell

I first though of the ocean. That strip of blue in the background and the waves of shadows undulating over the foreground. And then I realized it was snow. I hallucinated summer.
  15. The texture on the fur is amazing. You captured everything so crisply. Even the highlights maintain detail. Nicely done.

    Gone Sailing

You captured a shimmer on the water that gives the impression of movement.  The colors seem to shimmer a bit.  A deceptively simple capture.
  17. I thought of the circus even before I read your title.  The cones make a reappearance, acting as sentries.  A sad circus, if you ask me, but a fine shot.

  19. Agreed. I think there's a lot of visual candy on the site--pandering. Or there's an appalling lack of self-editing such that every snap is deemed worthy of posting. Either way, it was getting a little tiresome. I still lurk and should comment more often on those few folks whose work continually interests me or who continue to grow in their art (and by art, I mean art). I hope you know that I always like what you have to say, visually and verbally.
  20. An unusual series of contortions. The original shot seems quite hallucinogenic in terms of expression and colors. Always a pleasure!

    Ormond Beach Shadow

The blue on the wings is the same blue in the water. I like how crisp the shadow is. Brilliant.
  22. A beautiful shot bisected with just enough color to give it a Turner Classic feel. The yellow seems ancient. The blue seems modern. They seem to pull against each other. And the snow intrudes.

    Three friends in a cafe

A balanced shot, both in terms of light and the emotional elements. The empty chair is a bit troubling. A fourth...gone?
  24. Really beautifully filmed.  I like how the bowl is slightly tilted, as if the plant was actively drinking its fill.  The color of the leaves is nice, contrasting to the artificial surroundings.
  25. Such a quiet scene, albeit invigorated by the clutter of memory. I can bring my own memories to the scene--my own pictures--my own soundtrack. The difference between the large corpus of the teacher and his small student is striking. The mismatched chairs add some whimsey, as well as pushing forward the quiet chaos.
