Doug,
This may be a perceived as a stereotypical photograph, but some of these auto dumps still exist in rural parts of the country, where land is not at such a high premium as it is in some of our eastern and western suburbs. Walker Evans photographed a similar landscape many years ago in Pennsylvania that this reminded me of: Walker Evans in Pennsylvania.
Sometimes the hand of man adds interest to a natural landscape.
Regards,
Ed

I love this shot. At first I thought it looked like the old pong video game, then I saw the players. Nice.

Hi Keith. You caught a great expression on this kid's face. I saw this picture and it took me back. I grew up in the area, and Norristown went to the state championship a couple of times back then too. I checked out some of your other sports photos, and you've got some nice stuff, particularly some of the lacrosse.

I just came across your work. This is a wonderful shot. The tire tracks add much visual and emotional interest that make this much more than just a beautiful landscape shot (which it is, also).
-
Love this shot. Looks like a DC-3 from this angle, right? Great reflections and sky.
-
Mike, this is a beauty. I love the dreamlike quality that the soft snow givs this, and yet the tones in the barn siding are crisp and rich.
-
Steven, I like this very much. I'm partial to trains, but this is also just a great image, seen and framed well. I'd like to see more good stuff like this.

When I was a kid, we drove across the country several times, and I remember seeing many oil wells and fields of corn, cotton, soybeans, and other crops. Oil and agriculture have been important to this country, and this photo evokes that perfectly. Nice eye as always, Sam.

Love this shot of the Pulaski Skyway. Have you checked out the HABS/HAER project at the Library of Congress? Here's a nice shot: Pulaski Skyway.
I love lots of your other stuff too, particularly the bridges and the industrial landscapes. You have a very good eye.
Cheers,
Ed

Mike: As with most of your images, nice eye and powerful composition. This also reminds me of a much darker photograph taken by George Tice in the late afternoon with a similar mood. This is a great film shot!

This is a great bridge, and this picture goes nicely with Sam's picture from a different angle. I like the shadow of the bridge and the other reflections in the river.
-
I love your bridge and trestle shots, and this is a good one. Great tone in the ties.

Mike, thanks for your comments. This is also one of my favorite images -- I have a print hanging in the living room. This is a scanned 35mm negative, so there may be some loss of detail there. The depth of field is also quite small.
That bio pic was taken some years ago during a hike up Mount Washington, long before I lived in New Hampshire. So it is indeed New Hampshire granite!

This is a great photo. You show a nice eye for an image here, and there is some wonderful detail in the shadows and great range. Maybe you should let the lens get hazy again!

Wow, good eye for the abstract again. I am really enjoying your portfolio tonight. This would make a nice print, I think.

Great Good Friday shot. That cloudy moodiness that somtimes happens in the early spring. The grain helps too.
-
Another great B&W shot. I like the simplicity of your vision here -- straight on, high-contrast, and unadorned. Very powerful. You really have made some shots that matter here.

Andre, Donna,
Thanks for your encouragement. I have made several prints of this, both
traditional (this is a 35mm negative) and digital. As you can see from
some of my other photographs, I'm fascinated by old bridges and by other
industrial creations.

I found these lady slippers in the woods near the edge of a large old
granite quarry. They are not uncommon in the New Hampshire hills, but
you usually don't see such a large clutch of them together like this.
