What a great shot from this location. I tried to get a landscape shot like this last summer, but failed. Did you get any of the puffins when you where on the cliffs near Vik?

Thanks much for the comments.

Thanks for the comment. I struggled a bit with how to present this image. I photographed it early in the morning and the leaves seemed almost iridescent in the sunlight. On the other hand I'm not obliged to present the final image that way. I tried it both ways (a dark and a light look) and prefered this one. You do have a point though. Before printing I may try to play with this image again to get some more dark tones out while maintaining the overall lightness. This might be accomplished by reducing the yellow tones somewhat.

We've all tried to take shots like this one. You managed to do it very well!

Fantastic lighting!

Neal - on the whole I like this image a lot. It's effective because it transports me to that place.
A couple suggestions for other ways to take the shot: A polarizing filter might help bring out the blue sky even more. Also, you might try taking the shot with the camera very low to the ground and much closer to the structure. It would then rise up to dominate the image. The sky would also seem much larger. Just a thought...

Great shot. I really like the feeling of a misty morning that it evokes. I wonder what it would look like though a wider angle so that it wasn't cropped as tightly. Perhaps better, perhaps not. It's hard to know without seeing it.

Great photo! Are the colors enhanced at all?

Comments and critiques welcome. Does this image work in black and white?
-
Commments and critiques please. Specifically I'm wondering if this
works as a black and white image. In color it seemed a pleasant
postcard image that lacked impact.

Thanks for your comment, Larry.

Neal -- Thanks for checking the photo out and for your comment. Regarding the lighting, it was a contrasty day with direct sunlight alternating with the deep shade of the forest. Your comment does make me wonder whether the image exaggerates the contrast even further. I need to think about it. I do wish that I would have been in that sequoia grove on an overcast day.

Thanks for the comments. They are most appreciated. Francisca, what did you mean about "open to the right could be OK"? I guess I don't understand what you mean. Do you mean that I should crop the right edge a little to the left so as to remove the branches coming in from that edge? What do other folks think? I've also thought about cropping the left edge in to the trunk of the tree whose branches currently fall off the edge.

Half Dome in Yosemite National Park is photographed often,
particularly from this location (Glacier Point). With this shot I
tried to capture a little something extra -- the last rays of the day,
the clouds condensing in the shade and evaporating in the direct sun,
and the vibrant colors of this amazing scene. Comments and critiques
are always welcome. Thanks.

This image was taken in the Tuolumne Grove in Yosemite National Park.
I was trying to capture the contrast in scale as well as the beauty
of the blooming dogwoods. Comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks.

Comments and critiques are welcome. In particular, I'm interested in
ways of improving this image (tones, color balance, crop, etc.) for
printing. Thanks.
