Beautiful light, and the motion in the water s "just right". I would have preferred a bit more detail in the yellow lichen (?) on the rock in the foreground. However, that diagonal patch of color does a nice job leading into the image.

Radu, I love the polygonal columns. I guess the existing cooling cracks made it easy to break up the basalt and crush it. Connecticut has quite a few similar flows - all heavily mined. Today's laws protect only the visible outline of these ridges, and mining continues on their sides. The exploitation goes so far that companies propose to build houses on top of the rigdes, but to build the houses "unfortunately" some of the basalt would have to be removed... Christoph

I love the monochromatic palette and the hint of sunlight that seems to eat away at the top of the fog bank. Well captured! I might have given the ground a little bit more weight, but then, maybe not. Beautiful image. Christoph

I have to disagree with Gary (whom I just gave a helpful comment vote nevertheless :-). I appreciate the contrast between the highly detailed meadow and the lack of detail in the fog. The far shore with the silhouette of the tree bridges those two regions quite nicely. Yes, I can't see what's there, but one can always imagine ... Some of the best images (in my opinion) often show little, or just enough, but inspire the viewer to let his or her mind run wild. Aside from these metaphysical interpretations: I love the way how you handled the light here.

From earlier comments I understand that you wanted to focus on the flowers, so I don't mind the blurred background - it shows enough detail to be clearly recognizeable. However, I find the central flower stalk in the foreground distracting. It is out of focus and somehow my eye gets drawn to it more than to the rest of the flowers (which would have kept the background blurred). I think I would have either used a larger f-stop and focused on the foreground flower, or bent that one stalk to the ground so it's out of the frame during the exposure. The more I think of it the more I think I'd prefer the latter option. But who knows. Christoph

Beautiful mood and capture. I love the colors in the clouds and in the little creek, and the mist gives a nice moody touch. What I also find interesting is how the moon illusion breaks down when the moon is viewed in a photograph. I took pictures of the same moon behind my house (a far less exciting backdrop than your meadow!) and it looked huge. In the pictures it looks pretty normal. Beautiful image! Christoph

William, I like the simplicity of the composition and the muted colors, but two things throw me off a little bit: The white streaks to the right of the log The fact that the clouds are slightly slanted to the left. That makes my eyes want to wander out of the picture. Nevertheless, a beautiful image!

Kyle, I like this angle better - not sure whether it's the "best". The lilies take up more of the image, but the barn still puts it all into perspective. I like the asymmetry of the composition, but would have lightened the lilies a bit to draw more attention to them. I love the image, Kyle!
