  1. I bought an 80mm Planar from Shutterblade on EBAY a while back. When it arrived it was

engraved with someone's SS#. This was not mentioned in the ad. I sent it back to them and

they immediately refunded my money. Very easy to deal with. I've bought from them since

    and will continue to.

  2. Hello Everyone -

    I have a Mamiya 645 Pro with an 80mm f/2.8 lens. I'm currently looking at purchasing an 80mm f/1.9

because a lot of my work is in low light and with shallow depth of field. I've never used this lens.

Is it worth it? Is there a considerable difference between the f/1.9 and the f/2.8?

    Thanks in advance - Steve

  3. Hello Everyone -

I recently purchased an antique brass lens to use with my Speed Graphic. The problem is the lens has no

flange. The threads are fine, so my local hardware store is of no help at all. According to my

measurements, I need a 61mm flange. I'm sure I could probably get one custom made, but I'd rather try to

    do something myself.

    Anyone have any advice?

    Thanks - Steve

  4. Hi Dan -

Thank you for your response. The reason I mentioned the Cnetury Graphic is that I have both the Speed and the Century and use both regularly.

I do realize that an old lens doesn't always equate to a bad lens, but alot of the photos I've seen made with the older lens have that nice edge distortion I'm looking for. Is there a newer lens that can give me that same effect?

    Thanks - Steve

  5. Hello Everyone -

This may seem like a strange question but, I'm hoping someone out there can help me.

I'd like to purchase an antique lens to put on a Speed or Century Craphic camera

as a user. I'm looking for a lens like the older ones that were used on wetplate

cameras that give you a nice edge distortion when used wide open. There are so

many antique brass lenses listed on EBAY that I'm not sure where to start.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I would greatly appreciate it.

    Many thanks - Steve

  7. I realize this post is usually for questions but, I wanted to relay an

experience I had with The Camera Wiz Camera Repair Shop in

    Harrisonburg, VA.

In April of this year I purchased a Fuji GA645 on EBAY. The camera had

a problem with the motor winder. I called Frank and he said that was a

common problem and he could fix it.

I sent him the camera and he received it on April 19th. I got a call a

month later from Paul, his associate, telling me the camera would be

ready by the end of May. When I hadn't heard anything by the second

week of June, I called back and started to get the run-around. I was

told I would be called back and never was, etc...

By the end of June, I was told he still hadn't worked on the camera.

Finally, it ends up on my doorstep, a couple of days later, with a

note saying that he couldn't repair the camera and I should send it to

Fuji. This is almost THREE MONTHS after I sent the camera to them.

Now, here's the funny thing... Before I sent the camera to Camera Wiz,

everything worked except the winder (autofocus, display, etc...). NOW

    IT WON'T EVEN TURN ON!!!

When I called Frank to ask him about this his reply was, "Oh, that was

a long time ago. I'm going to have to go back and look through my

notes and call you back." I find it strange that he couldn't remember

my camera when he supposedly looked at it just days before I got it

back. Of course, he never called me back.

I decided to send my camera to Frank at Camera Wiz because I had read

good things about him online. I can honestly say that I have NEVER had

such a terrible experience from any repair person, camera equipment or

    otherwise.

  8. Hello All -

A friend of mine (who is not very internet savvy so I told him I would

post this question for him) has a Horseman 970. He's looking to get

back into photography after being away from it for many years. When he

used the camera years ago, he used sheet film holders. Now, he wants

to use roll film but doesn't have a holder.

    Here's my question....

Will Graflex roll film holders fit on a Horseman 970? I've looked all

over the net and can't find a clear answer.

Does anyone have experience using Graflex roll film holders or Mamiya

roll film holders on their Horseman 970, without modifying the camera?

    Many thanks - Steve

  9. Dan -

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I realize that I can turn the camera on it's side and that is what the tripod socket is for. My problem is that the camera has no swings and I need distortion on the top and bottom of a vertical image. That is why I was looking for a revolving back.

  10. Hello -

I'm thinking about purchasing a Mamiya Press Super 23 and I had a

question about the back. I noticed that it has swings and tilts. Will

this give me a decent about of distortion like a 4x5 camera? I realize

the movements will be more limited than a 4x5 but, I'm looking for

something that is compact and allows me to manipulate the plane of

    focus like a 4x5.

Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks - Steve
