Thank you for your responses everyone. It looks like the way to go is to buy on EBAY.
Thanks again - Steve

Hello Everyone -

I've been a photographer for the last twenty years and I have never even held a Leica camera (I know, shame on me). I really want to try one, but I don't know anyone who has one. Does anyone have any recommendations for a rental source? I'm primarily interested in trying a M6.
As you all know, it's a sizable investment and I'd like to shoot a roll of film (or two) before making the commitment.

Thanks in advance - Steve

Can anyone recommend a reliable technician in the United States (even better in the NorthEast) for a CLA on a Nikon F3HP?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find any posts on photo.net.

Thanks - Steve

Thanks Frank. I know what you mean, it's just that I really like the feel of the EOS-1n and the 50mm f1.8 is a great lens. The F4 is a bit clunky with the shutter speed dial on the top of the camera.

-

Philip - I thought about eye position, but I NEVER get overlapping with my Nikon F4 - and I'm shooting the same way. In fact, I've taken both cameras out and shot the same subject as a test.
JDM - I shoot the left part of the image and then pan the camera over to shoot the right side. I print the two frames as one image (I have a filed out 35mm carrier). I've attached an example.

Canon lists the EOS-1n as having a 100% viewfinder, but mine clearly is not. I shoot in-camera pans and have no problem with my Nikon f4, but the EOS-1n has overlap from frame to frame.
Is this just an issue with my camera?
Does anyone know if the EOS-1, 1n or 1V viewfinders are actually 100%?

Thanks in advance - Steve

Hi Everyone -

Does anyone know if there were other 4x5 field cameras made with focal plane shutters besides the Graflex models?

Many thanks - Steve

Hello Everyone -

I used Adox CHS 100 (120 format) a year or two ago and had some major fogging issues. I determined, through helpful participants of photo.net, that it was a design flaw on the part of the manufacturer - the paper did not cover the edges of the film entirely. Other people were having the same problem.

Has anyone used it recently? I'd love to know if they have fixed this problem because I really like the look of the film and would like to use it again.

Thanks in advance.

Paulo -
Both are great cameras. I've used both and I have to say I prefer the Mamiya 645 Pro for a couple of reasons. One, it's more modular. You can get different backs, finders ,etc. If you don't want to use a motor winder, you don't have to. Two, you can use multiple backs. Changing film backs mid roll is a plus for me. Three, I find it to be quieter. I don't like to draw attention to myself when shooting in public. This was a plus for me as well.
As to image/lens quality, I've found Pentax and Mamiya lenses to be very similar.

Hope this helps.

Edward -
Thank you for the information. I think I should mention that I'm not trying to make traditional panoramas. I actually like the wonky perspective. With that said, the Pentax 67 with a 105mm lens does an excellent job at minimizing distortion and incorrect perspective.

I've been using a Pentax 67 that has 100% coverage when using a waistlevel finder. It works very well. I just wanted to try and use the square. I don't crop the images. They are printed full frame and butted up against each other. That is why I was looking for a square format that would be 100% coverage. Unfortunately, I don't think the camera exists.

Edward -

Thanks for the advice. I print them full frame and mount them together. I don't stitch them together in the computer. Hence, the need for 100% coverage.

Can anyone tell me if the 500C or 500C/M has 100% viewfinder coverage when using a waistlevel finder?

I'm doing pans and I need the full coverage.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone -

I've been looking for a hood for my Takumar 28mm lens and I've seen one that is rectagular shaped - several are for sale on EBAY. These are all plastic. Does anyone know if there was a hood like this made of metal?

Thanks - Steve

Thanks guys. I appreciate the advice.

Hi Everyone -

I'm brand new to Olympus. I purchased an OM-4 recently with a 24mm f2.8. I love the camera - the size, the handling, etc...
My only complaint is that the viewfinder is pretty dim, compared to my Nikon f100. I belive the focusing screen it has is a standard screen with the horizontal split for focusing.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a brighter screen for this camera?
Thank you in advance.

Thanks Martin. I'll give it a try.

Help !!! Strange Problem...

Hi Everyone -

I have worked with pinhole cameras for years and have never encountered something like this. I made my own 8x10 pinhole for use with paper negatives. I keep getting this weird texture in my images - it looks like paper grain. I'm using a film holder, if that helps. I can't for the life of me figure it out. I tried to attach an image and photo.net won't let me.
Anybody else ever encountered something like this?
