i see..thats okay, happens to me all the time :D
okay...what did i mean when i said id do something different here.
what i ment was the way the exposure is done.
i do not know what this function is called in english nor where it is located on the d40 but the sign looks like a [+/-]
this will under/overexpose your image for +/-0.3, +/-0.7, +/-1.0blends, etc - up to +/-5.0 (+/-5.0 it ison my nikon d1x, dont know what the d40 is able to do but ill guess its about +/-3.0 ?] you should try out what happens to a picture by using this function
you also should try out bracketing [bkt]which is basically that the next 2 pictures will be done different, one will be over and one will be underexposed. the setting is simmilar to the one i mentioned before, you can set the blend-steps that will be used.
now you got alot of pictures, but thats not the right way to do it.
first you try out what i just told you, try it under different circumstances (day night, morning, nightfall)
also try it by shooting different objects
try it out by doing fotos with flash (try all flashsettings if you got an external flashlight, i got the sb 800, got that really cheap comming along with a nikon f100 (some old guy was overstrained by it and sold me those 2 weeks old for peanuts harrharr )..if you dont have an external flash, get one :D you can do funny things with those, also i must acknowledge that i am not familiar with the d40 and dont even remember if it got a built-in flashlight, but i guess so. try out the settings for that thing too)
and now try it with filters.
d40 and filters? hell yeah.get yourself a uv-light-filter and a polarizer.you can easily google the function of this filters.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV_filterhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polarizerdo not alwys rely yourself on wikipedia, get some other input aswell pretty please
uv filter also works perfect as a lens-cover.tiny scratches dont matter, but you know...after spending that much money ...ya, blabla you know :D
now use the polarizer in addition to the things i mentioned above and youll see what happens
now get yourself a copy of photoshop and try out colored layers layed above the image (red(b/w), yellow(b/w)etc,..)try out color-channeling and so on...(try out crtl+i for funzies)
needles to say, that all these things i mentioned are described better in books, they are mostly about 50-100euro (dont know what that is in dollars but i guess a little bit more)
if you spent some money on your equipment, you probably should spend something on books too.
ph.net comes along with a real great forum, browse it, ask questions (there is no stupid question!!)
and now i forgot whatelse i wanted to tell you, but gotta go now.happy shooting
cheers

haha, very funny idea :)
-
its small, very small
upload it again, bit larger if you please.
looks interesting, mainly beacuse of the colours
the composition looks cool too
maybe you could have overexposed it a little so the sky would be white
in addition it would be possible to get some more contrast with filters,
or use photoshop..
i think its looks cool, some things i would change, but who cares about that anyway :D
keep it going !

very nice, a cube-picture, mounted on a cube, not showingit but you can see more rectangles, i do like that !

holy smoke, hmm
how can something that kills not be a sin, if it was a sin(it kills), why would an angel smoke?
hey, you lied to us :D
haha
okay..just kidding..
noone pays?
hmm maybe you met the wrong people?
i doooont know,...
if your playing music as great as you deal with photos something is wrong,..
dont let yourself down, youre doing great !!
cheers ;)

i dont know what you did to the image greg, but it looks to me as if there was alot of sharpening and blurring.
the blur on the trees back there.
then the light..i guess you could probably have reduced the brightness pf the background trees, did you?
if so, you know now why the sky looks like copy/paste from a different shot
if its not so, i have no clue myself :D
haha
okay anyways
great picture !

nice idea,
but if you do know nothing about the social system in the usa, you actually would think thats just some homless guy and a flag in the background.
my idea would be to add some more social-contrast, some additional information, to set things straight.
i know, i argument like everyone was poorly educated, but i just think that this would be necessary to make it more of a statement than "just" an image :)

great portrait, i personally would like it better if the woman was positioned more to the very edge of the frame, right or left doesnt really matter, i would have done it with greater shadowzones-darker (but thats personal taste only)
very well done portrait, contrast color details are amazing
cheers
