Rob,
Thanks for the info. I just tried my old pentax viewfinder on my canons, and it does fit.. Now i have to try it out. I would have never thought of this.

I wouldn't be afraid of scsi, unless you are really afraid of your pc. A scsi/pci card can be bought new at (almost)any computer store for less than $30. it was just a few years ago, that most computer geeks friends laughed when i told them my peripherals were EIDE and not scsi.

I just remembered something, I'm not sure how accurately it would line up. But my old HP Printer has an optional double sided attachment. It basically prints one side, sucks the paper back to turn it over, then prints on the other side.

When you factor in the time involved in color film processing and printing alone, for me it's not at all cost effective. Black and White on the other hand, is. Just my opinion. For color I take the film 120 and 35mm to a local photo shop get it processed only in less than an hour for $2.50, then scan the negs.

my spotmatic does this as well, i have also read on the net, that many others have the same. For mine, it only does this when I leave the meter on when shooting. If I turn the meter off, the mirror/shutter work fine. I imagine if I tried it could be fixed. But metering with this camera takes up time anyhow, and it doesn't bother me to turn it off after metering.

I actually purchased a Canon D30 very cheaply because it had this problem. I didn't know about the problem when I bought it, I assumed that I would just use an attached flash. But after getting it, I found that the flash did indeed pop-up and work. By the way the person I purchased it from was quoted $250 by canon to fix it.

canon could charge and extra 100$ for it. Many people would buy it so they would LOOK more like the other guys that paid way more for thier cams.

I don't know of any printers that do this, but if there were such a printer, make sure you get double sided paper. If you have ever put the paper in upside down in an inkjet, you will know what I mean SMUDGE.

I would recommend getting a spotmatic as well. in addition you might look at the m42 to eos adapter. This will allow you to use the m42 lenses on you rebel, in stop down manual mode. I have one of these, and use it with several eos bodies. You can find them for 15-30 dollars.

Lawrence,
I'm sorry I connot answer that question. I use a dedicated film scanner for 35mm film and slide, and two separate flatbeds for prints and MF Film.
-
I agree, you will be much happier with a dedicated scanner than you will be with the slide duplicator results on a digital camera. But, the auction sites have several slide dup. options available almost all the time. I have used one to actually dupe slide to slides in the past, and it worked ok.

Be careful, this is a hobby that can become very addicting. uh oh, I better get back in the darkroom. By the way, nice shot.

You already have some very nice, expensive equipment. I don't think spending more is a surefire answer. With nature photography there is a lot to be said for LUCK.

When doing B/W, I usually shoot on B/W film develop it myself. I also shoot with a DSLR, and Color Film. On the occasions when I convert either digital, or scanned color film to B/W, I have been happy with the results. The reason I still shoot B/W film, because I really enjoy the darkroom.

Flare? I'm thinking this may be a case for the X-Files

The EXIF also records the camera body serial number something that should be taken note of. Even if the Owners name is changed, this will be the same.

depending on the lens, This looks like a deal that might be hard to pass up.

I have never seen a 5400 at work. But I did have an Acer 2740. I loved the scanner, but the motor would take the film/slide holders back and forth contantly. After several thousand scans, this motor started to give out. I do have a tendency to try to fix thing though. I turned the scanner upside down, and for some reason it worked for a couple of months more, maybe took some stress off the motor. Finally the the whole thing died, and I bought a new scanner.

I'm don't know for sure if this is the best solution. But it's the same thing that I do. It is definitely better than the solution of my parents and grandparents, who simply dumped thousands of negatives/slides into big cedar or chests, with the photos. No protection, and almost all scratched. After pulling these out and scanning them, I was really glad that my scanner had Dig. ICE. even with that, many were really ruined.

Have you tried the lens on another body? And is this the only lens the exibits this behavior on your body?

In the constant persuit of perfection, sometimes you have to realize that PERFECTION does not exist. Just try to find the HAPPY PLACE where you are satisfied. I understand completely, and when I realized that my hairline is receding due to pulling it out, this is when I stop tweaking.

Until I got a film scanner, I did not realize exatly how much minilabs do crop. Even on 4x6. I also found that all the very dark prints/framing problems that made these prints less than I thought they would be when taking, were not entirely my fault.

in my case, Hobbyist, not pro. I enjoy the adventure of the experiment. I often will see short dated film that I have never tried at photo shops(usually Cheap) and pick some up to try it. I have found great films this way. If I were trying to make a living, I would be much more careful, but I think it wouldn't be as much fun.

It sounds like a spooling issue. Try to go into the printers properties, Then into the advanced tab. Then set the printer to start printing after the last page is spooled. I have seen this problem on a few printer-Pc combinations, and this usually cures the problem. The other thought was that I have seen this when running through a USB hub, but you obviously not doing that..
