  1. <it> what kind of a lens does one need? </it> <br>

probably any lens would do...below is a low qua scan of ekta64t taken with an 85a filtre through a Pentax-M 50/2 lens hand held at about 1/15 f/2.4ish ... yeah, not a usual birding set-up, but I was shooting a concert indoors, had thungsten film loaded and only a 49mm orange filtre with me at the time. I shot about a dozen frames creeping closer and closer to the hawk and his squirrel till I was probably about 5 feet away<div>00G01b-29355584.jpg.d8581f5819d8cc5e48ec899d36333205.jpg</div>

  2. how does it look with no lens's mounted? I mean cock and fire without a lens on, there's a lever on the left (looking in): it might be bent or getting stuck on something
  3. probably it'd depend on the shutter type, in general I'd guess that the spring might get weakened, but I doubt it'd matter unless the camera sits around cocked for a year. Personally I try not keep cameras cocked for too long, and I also excercise the shutters of all my empty cameras at least once a month.
  4. yeah, this is what pre-set means... I hope it'd grow on you, I actually rather like it, it's sort of natural to me to open and close the diaphragm with the ring finger while focusing as usual. Also, no time is wasted on all that mechanical couplings, I canhave the lens focused and stopped down just waiting for the right moment to trip the shutter...<br>Best in the New Year!
  5. though not in the same category, but when this happens on ME sup it's an indication that the 2nd shutter curtain is notfully closed. Now, don't all shout at once, I know it's not the same shutter construction, but might be worth a try...
  6. had this happen so bad once that the film altually got torn (and the tail end had to be developped separately), I think that at least for my spools it was caused by one of the balls that gotten jammed. Now before loading I always make sure it's nice and loose. Another thing is the direction in which the film is wound in the camera, for example my Zenit winds it emulsion side out, so I load it this way too, it goes in smoother.
  7. yeah, at first I though to "save" the money and buy one of these 3rd party ones as well, mine did not even have a name on it, but then I found that it just plain don't turn in ANY of my pentax cameras, but does so in a third party teleconverter, so I bought the genuine adapter and had not had any problemmes since
  8. Jos v. Eeklen: yes, it's hydrogen peroxide. It's more of a fungus fighting mix, originally I was somewhat queasy about all the colouring and other crap they add to Windex (or whichever your local favourite window cleaner is) but then after trying it on a lens I did not care for found that it works pretty good. EtOH leaves streaks, windex mix takes them off. Neither seems to have any ill effects on coating, not that I can see anyway. btw I have a pair opf some kind of low-qua chinese-made binoculars and the the "coating" there was pretty much completely wiped using EtOH, so you may be quite right about avoiding such home made remedies.
