  1. I have that Sigma 17-50 on my D7200 with the latest Nikon FW, and it AF's just fine. While third party lenses are subject to Nikon FW updates to the Nikon bodies, I doubt if Nikon deliberately targeted the Sigma on the D7100, and ignored it on other bodies. That is not to say that the lens won't meet a similar fate with future D7200 updates.
  2. New 35mm f/1.8 DX for my D7200, nothing is safe!
  3. So, just where in Norcal are you? I just talked to one of my sons in Stockton that was glad to see the rain deal with the smoke. Plus me told me a story about selling a anew car to a guy from Paradise that barely escaped after losing his home and pickup to the fire. I don't know how that Tamron, which I have not tried, compares to my Sigma 17-50, save to say that I like the Sigma. Best of luck to you in your pursuit, and here's wishing you a happy holiday season.
  4. Tell me more about your impressions with the 35 1.8 on the D7200. I'm not really interested in fast action stuff as much as IQ in slower, more deliberate situations. My copy will be here tomorrow, and I'm hoping the bokeh is decent for general use and the occasional shot of friends and family. I don't pay a lot of attention to charts, etc, but I do pay attention to owners opinions. I hear you loud and clear when you talk about gear weight when we age, as I'm 79 myself, and lighter is better!
  5. Well, if I were standing in the photographers position , and saw that nice, colorful, boat moving toward me, I don't think my attention would be on the interior surface of that bridge which I'd be unlikely to see while staring a the boat anyway. So, while we know there's detail in there, who cares?
  6. I'm looking for something fast enough for occasional portrait shots, w/decent bokeh. Add to that, not too spendy, and a zoom would probably serve me best, as portrait stuff is rare for me, but I'd like to be prepared anyway. As it is it's the area beyond 50mm where I'm lacking on the D7200 for some lens speed. Suggestions welcome, and hopefully my local rental joint will have it so that I can give it a spin.
  7. First off, that's a great shot, info out the wazoo! But to answer your question, I think it depends on the image and who you ask, but more than my D200 is capable of. ;o)
  8. True, but, there are still some choices better then others in the "affordable" range. Not everyone that wants to shoot can afford the best, but then they aren't going to let that stop them from shooting. Add to that the fact that everyone' needs are not exactly the same. A case in point is Gary not liking the Sigma 17-50 because of the zoom ring's operation when shooting action, while I quite like that lens and the mid $300 price I paid for it. I consider it a better buy than the Nikon 17-55, for me, YMMV.
  9. Old pic, original is misplaced, sorry about the poor IQ of the scan. But, a GREAT dog!
  10. I have, and like, the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 on my D7200, but I don't shoot sports, so the zoom ring is a non-issue here. Another 10mm on the long end would be nice, but it is what it is. Just ordered the 35 1.8 Nikkor, we'll see how it performs on the D7200. I liked the 50 f/1.8 on my D200, but I've not tried it on my D7200 yet. It's an older AF-D, and if you listen to Thom Hogan, even the newer AF-s design is not too great on 24 MP bodies. I also have the 18-200 Nikkor and it has lived on my D200 for years, save for the times that my 12-24 f/4 Nikkor stepped in for wider views. There's been a ton of negative feedback on the 18-200, but it has given me good imagery. Maybe my copy is an exceptional one, I dunno. Of course it's no speed demon. I'd like to trade off my 20-35 f/2.8 Nikkor for something better suited for my D7200. It hasn't been used in years, since parking my F100.
  11. Interesting thread, I hope it continues.
  12. Hmmm, looks like the rock thrower has found one to hide behind, which is itself not exactly ethical.
  13. My apologies for the lack of "photo" related content, but I see this old canard quite frequently, thus I responded. I was following my training in SONAR (Sound Navigation And Raging) by the US Navy, no trickery involved. My point being that it's common to see people confuse the metaphysical with hard science. WRT, tongue in cheek evidently you missed the wink at the end of my post. I'll leave you to it.
