1.
There's a fellow Gene that I met here on pnet, he has a fascinating website westfordcomp.com he does this a lot, people send him old films, he would probably have some advice, and he has lots of examples of found films developed years later, as well as modern films shot in old cameras. His website currently says "down for maintenance" so I hope it's just a temporary thing.

 2.
No joke on the Canada. I'm on the left coast usa, and have had items 4-5 days from London or Hong Kong, but from Banff to Seattle a couple of weeks, for a simple poster in a tube. I wouldn't worry about it, it does have me wondering though how Canon and other companies ship items to USA and Europe, tons of cargo containers here on docks of Seattle, so they are probably new in metal container exposed to Pacific Ocean heat for 7-10 days or whatever it takes to cross Pacific.

 3.
Denis, please answer Eric and Jeff's questions. I too want to know what is lacking with your current gear. You may be afflicted with the magic bullet syndrome "if-only"....wish I could get a vaccine against it myself....

 4.
Then there are places like KEH that fixed my 1d2 shutter this year that Canon no longer services. I use my 5D regularly, haven't felt a need to upgrade to a 2 or 3 yet.

 5.
I'm happy with my 17-40, won't be upgrading but thanks Canon for offering. Why? I and my clients are Happy with my prints, not a pixel peeper and looked at a MFT chart ONCE just for giggles. I would be interested in a fixed 17mm though, non-shift. Miss the Canon FD 17mm...

 6.
Stubborn. To not use zooms for weddings or similar event where the subject is changing quickly these days in the name of "manual focus primes only zone focus, etc" is not only suicidal, it's just plain stubborn. And no one is impressed other than a small percentage of vain photographers. Like Jos said, if you showed up at my kids' wedding I'd kick you out with those original outfits...

I've done weddings with primes in the 80s and early 90s on film, 35mm and mf....sure did miss a lot of shots, even with two bodies, each with its own flash. Keep that 135f2 for formal portraits, though. No one at the wedding will be impressed with you and the fact that you use primes only. Zooms have come a long way since the 80's, give it a try.
