<p>Derek, I know I'm late to your posting, but within the last 18 months KEH (USA) repaired my 1d2 (not N) shutter. It froze/fell apart during a soccer match. They sent back with the old shutter blades in the box. I picked up another 1d2 spare also, I like them so much.</p> <p>KEH also repaired my 1ds2 within the last year, although it wasnt a shutter issue, was no longer serviced by Canon. I feel your pain on the "end of service" lifes, but I think Canon is on the Autodesk (autocad) and Adobe bandwagon of obsolence and screwing the customer. </p> <p>Could you imagine the uproar if (pick any auto manufacturer) said they're not going to service vehicles 2007 year or older....</p> <p>Tom</p> <p> </p>

i bang my t90 (sorry that just sounds wrong lol) into my palm while pressing the shutter button...no lens attached. when i say bang i am banging hard enough into my left palm that my left hand hurts. usually takes 20 seconds or less...i wouldnt recommend the floor no way i am trying to repair a t 90... the line that comes to mind when i see Chris Schwartz photos of the t90 guts is the Dirty Harry "a man's got to know his limitations"

<p>I don't agree with it, but I sort of understand the visceral hate and bashing of Canon mentioned by Dick. Any company that gets to the top gets picked apart in this day and age of nitpickiness...DPR though that is some site.</p> <p>For my part I just purchased a 300mm Fujinon lens for my 4x5 this week, and excited to use that. My newest Canons other than G-series are a couple of 1ds and a 40d,so "I'm good". I've used gps in a professional capacity in my work (sub-centimeter accuracy) and have no use for it in any camera, as well as wifi and flip up flashes. I'm glad we all have choices though.</p>

<p>+1 on the jogging strollers. Goes 90% of the places I shoot. </p>

<p>I have one of those old Linhof finders that Andrew mentioned. Gets me in the ballpark for 4x5 and 6x12. There are also the viewers you see movie people using on sets, I believe B&H sells them but dont know much about them.</p>

<p>What I do is pre-focus and compose with my speedfinder-equipped F1n and then switch over to my dslr to take the pic. Problem solved. ;)</p>

<p>My widest is a 50mm on Hassy and a 90mm on horseman 6x12 back on 4x5 camera. I do not miss the Canon 17-40 or Panasonic 7-14 u4/3 angles of view. A long time ago I stopped trying to associate medium format and 4x5 lenses with my 35mm. Different animals. I'd forget about taking a 4x5 on vacations though unless you are traveling alone and by car. When I go on vacations or with other people I usually take whatever current Canon G-series camera I own at the time.</p>

<p>Personally I love the ergonomics and weight of the 1d series. I use 1ds2 and 5D in full frame and a pair of 1d2 for sports. </p> <p>the biggest negative in my user opinion is the batteries, as others have mentioned. Hard to get new ones, always "backordered" at B&H....The used Npe3s that come with typical used 1d series cameras are generally poor. I go through a lot of them with my 1d2 cameras at soccer games. Sometimes I go through 3 "fully charged" but used npe-3s for 250 shots at a soccer game...sad. I looked into the eneloop refurb exercise a while back, as mentioned above, but at the time it didnt seem elementary unless you have electronic tech skills. Perhaps I should look again. Just too bad Canon never made the 8xAA battery insert for the npe3 as they did for the pbe2/npe2 for 1v/eos3 etc...</p>

<p>Another vote for Drew's solution. Woodworking type clamps also come in handy for this type of setup, in my experience.</p>

<p>Pretty sure Adobe has their free DNG converter for 7d2 files.</p>

Sweet. The lack of phallicised push-pull zoom is a deal Maker for me. My uncle has the current version and doesnt like the zoom creep on tripod, but I can't validate his technique. I see one of these in my futurr with a 7d2 for soccer and baseball. My current 1d2 bodies could do better with low light and id love the zoom.

Did this with a couple of new lenses, "get both, then sell the less-preferred on ebay at only a small loss.."....Of course now 5 years later I still have the 70-200 lens and the 200 2.8 tele lens...I tried to help you, go ahead and hit that shopping cart.</p>

<p>This thread reminds me of people who post in online forums for medical advice. Go see your doctor (Canon). If you can afford the lens, you can afford to have it repaired.</p>

I am continually amazed at people here, and people on FB that I know personally that will post questions that are answered in a couple of seconds with a google search. SMH.</p>

<p>I don't use a Mamiya 6, but I've bought used adapter plates from KEH for my 1ds and Hassy bodies. Check there they may have one or similar RRS model. Tom</p>

<p>There was a good article in View Camera 10-15 years ago, ran over two issues if I recall, author detailed making his own 4x5 from scratch. I'm just happy to get a plywood rip with little splintering, not that detailed for really small box construction....like Craig said not going to make money, more of a personal project perhaps. Maybe something more possible with 3-D printer technology?</p>
