The guy even looks like one of the characters from Bruce Davidson's street gang images (or is it Larry Clark's Tulsa?) Here's hoping he has better prospects ...

I really like this photo, but it IS interesting that the only intelligent critiques of it (or rather of its 'philosophy') have come from two of the most talented and active contributors to the 'Street and Documentary' forum on PN. Tony Dummett, Beau and a.kochanowski all have distinctive styles, and they all differ from each other. I'm for any comment that encourages - intelligent - debate between people whose work I admire.

You might guess that I'd like this one. The subjects and mood of the Ann Arbor shots are more homogenous than the Dupont Circle ones, and the emotional tone is also warmer, and sweeter. There are obvious reasons for that. I do miss the wonderful text summaries that enrich the Dupont photos. What is your take on the new project / locale? Where do you want to take it?

Welcome back Ward. LOVE the braces on the girl. Will review the other new postings asap.

Still good.

Rather lovely.

Nice work here. Exactly the sort of thing a street photographer should be looking for: I like the fact bunny is tied up, just as if s/he was a dangerous dog. And a little forlorn. Good that you held your nerve and DIDN'T get too close too, since the mysterious draped object is excellent. Maybe you could lose a bit of the space on the right tho.

A very expressive shot, which we are obviously meant to contrast to the classic rock iconography of groups of young men inter-relating intensely and purposefully whilst on stage.

Much better than the one everyone is raving about over on the TRP IMO.

"Crisis of the veal".
Funnier than the photograph. Sorry, Thomas, but Eggleston's freezer is nicer to look at.

Interesting and attention-grabbing. I am thankful that the POTW wasn't chosen from the 'Venice' or 'Nudes' folders.

Love the title, and the weird DOF gives it a sort of 19th C look. Maybe the subject is a bit lost in the frame, but then he is supposed to be a bit disoriented.

Your instincts were good here, I think. The two hands and two circles are both great. There is some distortion on the upload or file, and perhaps this would be better in monochrome, with the white circles toned down slightly, so they don't compete so much with the hands and face (the other centres of interest). You might also conceivably crop the left border slightly. Bottom edge is possibly a bit too tight, but not a disaster. Your folder has numerous striking images - but could do with some editing, and some thought as to what your broader, overall goals are. Individual images acquire weight in relation a consistent body of work.

Lovely subdued pastel tones and evening light. Best one in the folder (though cones is also intriguing). Possibly looks a little fuzzy/soft? Could be: cheap lens, slow shutter speed, scanning or resolution problems? Not sure, cos no technical details are posted.

Paris, France? An atypical Beau shot in an atypical place. Surely a story behind this one - but maybe a private one, from the city of lovers.
-
This is certainly the most intriguing and inspired shot in the folder.

Also this one and the woman with shoes.

I like a lot of shots in this wonderful folder - this one, revolution girl, the three girls with attiude, do not sit on this step, shame on you robert, etc. As you can guess, I'm particularly taken by your inventive use of texts a la Weegee or Walker Evans, something I also try to do sometimes. However, as others have noted, the tones are v. harsh in a lot of these - blown highlights and grey, grainy shadows. Is this a scanning problem? Anyway, the imges are strong enough to make it a secondary issue, and it's always best to make allowances for scanning on PN.

Lovely. To be compared with Maria Slucz's snowstorm shot. The grain of the film is a perfect match for the 'grain' of the snow.

This is a good folder. I find all the images interesting.
