    Comox Pier

          3

I agree with James; the B&W is nice, and the dramatic sky lends considerable interest to the photo. Nice job with the angles leading out of the photo.

The pier does indeed feel slightly tilted in relation to the horizon. In addition to a longer lens, perhaps moving slightly left would have helped.

    Fall Dam...

    Jennifer,

Nice capture! The fall colors are provide a good contrast to the blue sky and the stark building.I also like the black border you added.

I have two suggestions: 1. The photo lacks contrast. In Photoshop, select the brightest point in the photo and make it the white point. I've never used Light Room, but am sure the process is similar. 2. Consider a slight change in perspective, either lower or higher relative to the building. The transition between the water and land bothers me since it appears about the same height as the top of the building. Personally, I would get a few feet lower.

  1. I think that this is a great experimental attempt, but the composition just does not work for me. I feel that there is simply too much space given to the sky and clouds. Consider designating 1/3 to sky, 1/3 to background, and 1/3 to foreground. This is just a rule of thumb, but it seems to work for me on many of my landscape photos.

  2. Your timing was perfect and focus looks to be good. I am of two minds regarding the composition, though. The way the fence top is arranged and the placement of the bird is very good. The out of focus elements are distracting, especially where it cuts through the bird.

The posture of the bird is very good and is complemented by the diagonal branch. Background blur is very nice too. The branch is slightly blurry, have you sharpened the photo yet?

  3. Derek, welcome to photo.net! I think that you are off to a good start here. The clouds make an interesting pattern that is appealing. The colors are also nice. I do have two suggestions. Consider using a photo editing program to make the horizon level. Also, consider cropping the photo so that the trees in the center become more prominent. I have attached an example, I apologize in advance if you prefer that I did not.

I like this shot, but perhaps on its own rather than as part of the current series. The narrow focus is what makes this photo in my mind. I am left wondering whose ring is on the bed and if it is a promise of things to come or does it instead mean a broken promise. I do think that the the photo is tilted a bit too strongly, though.

    DSC_0061 crop

I agree with Les' critique. I would also like to add that it appears that you lost all of the shadow detail in the hair beside your model's neck. You might try a reflector or fill flash. You did a very good job of capturing her smile, though.

I agree with Jan, I like the simplicity of the photo. The colors are also appealing, although perhaps just a bit over saturated. I think that you should crop it to a landscape format as there seems to be a little too much sky.

As an abstract, this is a neat photo. The icicles hanging down and the ice covered chain links is an interesting perspective. I do think, though, that the background it just a bit overexposed.

    Regal White Tiger

The pose is near perfect for this framing. The contrast between the grass and the tiger's tails leads my eye to the tiger. The fact that the tiger is looking to the right helps keep me from feeling that there is not enough room to the left. The background is a bit too busy for my taste, but that can hardly be helped.

    B&W fashion

I like the model's pose and the simplicity of this photo. The texture on the wall is also pleasant as is the B&W treatment. I think though that I would like to see some detail of the prop she is leaning against. Also the bright area on her breast is slightly distracting. Very good!

The contrast between the bold colors is complemented nicely with the different patterns. The lamp seems to add interest. The yellow rectangle in the lower right, unfortunately, slightly detracts.

    Super Viagra

Nice! This definitely reminds me of pharmaceutical spam I have received. I especially like the well endowed cartoon man.

One thing that you should consider is slightly rotating the photo such that the bottom of the sign is horizontal.

  4. Again, very nice. I very much like this in B&W, and how it contrasts with your other Gaudi photo in color. It is a shame that the highlights have blown slightly, perhaps it is just my monitor. Also, I think that you made a mistake similar to the other Gaudi photo with the crop being too close to the bottom. The building curve at the bottom-middle section disappears, and my mind wants to see it clearly.

All in all, though, very good!

  5. This very interesting composition caught my eye with the "hills" and roof decorations. The people and the more traditionally styled building in the background help give some sense of scale without weakening the overall composition.

I am bothered by the blown-out sun which draws my eyes to the sky and away from the buildings. Not much to be done about that: looks like you had to choose between loosing highlight detail or not having any detail in the building surfaces. Also, I think that you cropped out a bit too much on the bottom, the sweeping building curve is almost lost. At least to me is is a slight distraction.

I suppose now shall have to put Spain on my must-visit-someday list.

    A colorful night

Very nice! I am sure the print is even better. The colors work well together, I especially like the effect of the visible stars. I feel that the trees in the foreground really make what could simply be a good photo into an excellent one.
  6. I like this photograph. The model's pose does reflect ballet to me (as you intended) and she appears relaxed. I do think that it might be improved in two ways: reflector fill on the right and using a more muted cloth.

Having taken a quick glance at your portfolio, I notice that you pose quite a few of your models with bright clothing or accessories. Posing with a muted cloth might make a more classical composition for this photo, but perhaps not quite fitting in with your style.

  7. Eldar, you have made a very nice photo. The hint of red above the distant lights is pleasant, also neat to see a few bright stars. The dock to the the left leads the eye towards the distant lights. I think that the photo would be better, though, if the horizon was level. Was this intentional?
  8. Very nice. The colors are pleasant, there is not too much motion blur and the composition is good. I think though, that the rock on the left and the mountains in the background need a little more space. Perhaps by moving back 2 steps? Very minor, however.
