I think that this is a great experimental attempt, but the composition just does not work for me. I feel that there is simply too much space given to the sky and clouds. Consider designating 1/3 to sky, 1/3 to background, and 1/3 to foreground. This is just a rule of thumb, but it seems to work for me on many of my landscape photos.
