I would love to have seen this in POW for the chance of reading in depth discussions of others.

My limited knowledge and untrained eye tells me this is so perfectly wonderful in terms of the composition and tonal ranges, the contrasting shine on the almost still waters takes my eye round all of the corners of the picture.......amazing.

I like this image for its different textures and so much for the eye to look at along that wall. Your timing was good to catch the people coming into the frame.

I wonder if a slight lowering of contrast might help tone the 'wall' down and maybe a small crop to the right (nearer the last window) would give better scale to the composition - I'm not sure..... just thinking out loud!

Yes, lovely well groomed hair. I agree with pretty much all of Jayme's point of view but not sure if burning-in will do the trick. Perhaps you have another shot where the model's head is slightly less tilted back?

A busy but happiest time coming up for your daughter and her family, am sure all will go swimmingly. Enjoy.

One of the nicest thing with this and other sites like this is when time allows, one can stumble onto all kinds of interesting people. Kimberly, your bio was a heart warming read :)

Taking you at your word that you prefer honest comments......

I feel the focus point on this flower (center) is on the soft side, I wonder if you've maybe cropped this image too close in post work? For want of the flower to be pin sharp at this range, you either have to have super steady hands or best make use of a tripod.

This was a fast - can't stop- snap while on a group tour. Given the choice I would love to have stayed and taken dozens of shots here. The near broken door and composition was a dream come true.....but...

    Thank you Bill for noticing.

Thank you Bill for your comment. 'Burn in the edges' brought a big smile...a long while ago I took some darkroom lessons, the words I recall the most of all from the teach was 'burn in the edges!' :) Haha.

With regard to this rose, I did use the burn tool - however, probably due to the white shades, I found it quite difficult not to leave dark shadows alone the inner edges. Having said that, I will have another try.

Meanwhile, I'm grateful for your advice.

    Hello Dave,

First and foremost, thank you for your visit and leaving me with kind words. After a long break, its nice to be back and nicer still to make a new friend :)

I no longer give ratings and tend to comment frankly as my eye sees. Rightly or wrongly...hopefully, never rudely.

I visited this delightful photo a couple of days ago, my eye instantly auto cropped this to a near square so the white blur that Maggie mentioned didn't figure in my mind's eye, nor your original question of if the red is of the right tone.

The special appeal for me is the cute bird sitting sharply on that branch with the (most unusual) over hang leaf above her and the lovely coloured blurred background....not sure you need much more for a strong stand alone image.

  1. Of the two versions, I prefer this. The other is deeper and richer in colour but this gives me the quiet tranquil feel of the sea.

Here in the UK, lives a painter - Kirk Jackson, he is famously known for his big scale sea & skyscapes on oil.......your Nantucket views remind me of his work :)

    Hello Brad,

After a lon..g break, I'm back here slowly :) Thank you for your visit.

Your collection of square formatted seascapes are awesome, each express their very own quiet tranquility. This, eventhough are clearly rocks in seacape reminds me so much of the famous Chinese 'yellow mountains' where the soft morning fog laces the surrounding peaks.

Seems all your little models enjoy talking to your camera with their eyes. You have that gift.

PS-have you considered showing your 'Q' here? :)

I like the tones you've managed here. The fog gives such a dreamy feel to the image. From the middle distance the scene almost fades away, yet its all there. (don't mind me, just talking to myself!) You know Brad, I would like to see that top right hand branch removed just so the eye doesn't get caught up there. This is nice.

Hi Anthony, I didn't see the other version of this picture, but this I like. Pebble roads always make such interesting pictures especially in B&W, here they give a lovely shine to lead to the man. But the space he steps into is unknown to the viewer...interesting stories can be knitted from this image. Very nice:)

Hi Anthony, Nice to hear from you. This was a still life I set up. The feathers I bought in a ladies hat shop. They were all painted jet black. I just stuck them in a vase and they bent like that. Then high lighted the image in PS. Thankyou for visiting.

Hi Neil, nice to see/hear from you. I've been looking at your beautiful NZ beach shot - will run by there soon.

I love the 828. Its very easy to use. I also have a fancy canon, but prefer this for easy use...not really a gear person, just as long as I can pick up and shoot, anything will do really:)

  2. I 'think' I agree with Neil on the slight crop of the foreground, but then I'm shockingly bias towards square formats !

This is a off beat, interesting composition. the footwear shouts youth culture. Funny how pictures don't need words sometimes. They do say that's what its all about...

Thank you Mauricio, Sarah, Robert & Alec for your very kind feed backs.

Alec, did you really see the same picture? Sadly there's little one can do about people stealing pics of the net but feel sorry for those who do such things.
