Thanks, Robert. Yes, more DOF would be nice but unfortunately I was handheld and couldn't slow the shutter down any more - the wind was blowing and had to shoot quickly when these flowers came to rest.

Great capture Richard. Looks like he was posing for you. :)

I read that you shot this with a 100-400mm I am curious though how close physically you were to the bird? I recently tried a couple shots of birds with a 100-300 & 1.4x but the subject only filled just a tiny portion of the image. I need to get closer.

  1. Thanks, Tom for the comments. You're right, I too was amazed at the incredible sights inside this building.

If there was a sign prohibiting pictures, I missed it. I walked around openly with my camera and bag taking pictures everywhere (except where the books are - it was closed to visitors at the time we were there). I did not use any flash so perhaps that kept me from attracting attention.

  2. On the surface, a pleasing yet simple scene but the longer I look the more I am drawn in by the interaction of lines and curves and that wonderful light. The painterly effect adds a dramatic element to the overall image that I find quite warm and complimentary. Great job, wonderful work.
