This is typical crosslight. Basically the sun is used as a backlight/rimlight/hairlight (well, the latter not so much in this case) while a flash is used off camera as a main light in the opposite direction. The ambient exposure is dialed down a stop or two which makes for a more dramatic shot.

In this case, the flash seemed to be without any modifier, so hard light against hard light.

Could it be that the film was just scanned too early, like in not totally dry yet? I used to process C41 at home, and the film is just a little milky when not dry yet. You should take a look at those negatives, if you manage to get them out of the cartridge. I least I hope they were dry before rolling it up again :-)

Congratulations! By the way, is that his first MP3-player on that belly? Sorry I don't have experience in those matters :-)

Do you have "Minimize embedded metadata" checked? Some programs can add a lot of extra information/headers which have nothing to do with the image itself, but do increase the file size.

Anyhow, I don't think you would notice the difference in any sized print.

One reason to shoot in Auto mode. At least the flash would have popped up and might have given you some useful info about the behaviour of the other stuff in your knapsack.

You can find a world of information on this page.

You might also want to shoot video RAW, or not... Also look at that lens :-)

In the Develop Module, make sure that your Camera Profile is not set to ACR 2.4. Instead, use Camera Standard or similar, just not ACR 2.4.

In previous versions I needed to clear up my D50 NEFs a whole lot. This issue was addressed in later versions of ACR. Since then my shots from both the D50 and D90 come out almost exactly as previewed on the LCD.

Probably bad exposure. In this case your meter might be fooled by the bright backlight and underexposes your shot. Then the printing machine (or scanner software) tries to make up for the bad exposure which results in grainy shots. Are your other shots OK?

Thank you Jose Angel. I've always loved the thread, however it was only since last month or so that I started participating and got really hooked to it.

I'm pretty sure Matt will do it good too. As he never seems to sleep I don't think he will start the thread too much after the usual nine o'clock here in Europe :-) First thing in the morning or last thing in the evening isn't that much apart, is it?

Os deseo muy feliz Navidad y un fantástico año nuevo.

I found this carrot between the leftovers of this year's vegetable garden. My wife got artsy and gave it a face and a hat, and I just pictured it :-)

Happy WedNEsDAy to all!

how to practically "underexpose in the camera and over expose on the flash"
in Lighting Equipment
