First, check if no flash exposure compensation was dialed in.

Another way to make a flash overexpose is to have manual settings used instead of TTL, at 1/1 power for example. This could also happen with the flash in commander mode, while keeping the onboard in manual at high power setting.

I ran a crop through WhatTheFont, and it seems to be "Bickham Script Pro". HTH.

I joined a local photography group that takes the members each month to a different location. This time we went to a museum with a permit to fire at will (no flash allowed though).
<a title="DSC_6793.jpg por Girona_Flashman, en Flickr" href=" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4085/5005360537_cd40cab359_z.jpg" alt="DSC_6793.jpg" width="425" height="640" />

IMO we have too few info about your workflow for troubleshooting.

Do you do some postprocessing in LR or PS, or do you print Jpgs straight out of the camera? Do you set a custom white balance? If you print straight out of the camera, it doesn't matter if your screen is calibrated, it would only reproduce a picture differently, but still print the same. It can also be a colour space issue. Some programs might not recognize an AdobeRGB tag (if that's what your camera is set to), and print like everything in the world is sRGB.

Still too much variables here, I'm afraid. On the other hand, purple is a very hard colour to shoot, so you might have just found the magic trick without knowing it :-)

It was a loooong time ago I didn't really go out and just shoot, but last weekend I could. And I found this dead tree next to an almost empty lake.

With this setup you would normally make a silhouette, a totally black contour of your subject with no detail at all. Probably the light bounced off of something in the room which got you a little bit of detail (and colour) back.

To have more control over the detail, bring a reflector closer in at the opposite side of your light, or use a fill flash. Actually I would have started lighting the face first, and then add the backlight for effect.

It's actually in the comment: an exposure of over two minutes.

D90 and using Bulb
in Nikon
Posted

Bulb does indeed work with the IR remote control on a D90. Just to make sure: you must be in M-mode.
