    Snow Blasted...

          2

    hi,

i like this shot and the way you accomplished it. i would try taking snow pictures in bw and then handpaint them, i feel this compensate the trend of snow pics to be exageratelly bw by adding decise spots of color on your own thus driving onlookers attention

  1. hi,

there is a similar structre in paris - la defense. I took some pic of it and i will post them sooner or later...

i would like to add that i like the convergin lines to the center and the way you included people in them.

  2. hi, the photo itself is ok - i just feel it a little overally dark. i would also try it in BW with longer (30 secs at least up to mins) exposures. so you may blur out clouds and water and underlyne the subject in foreground.

    tree and way..

i would have preferred a closer look to the tree, this would have better evidenced the reddish tone on the building and the van in the background. Also the sky appears to be a manipulated and this is evident looking through the tree.. there the sky is evidently lighter.

I would have told this picture was coming straight from the '60 if it wasent for the newer car in the background. also the sepia tone helps that feeling. Was your goal to deceive the observer thus distracting him to look in the background or it came out just this way?
  3. nice, i would have preferred a simplier composition... was the adult's hand necessary? was the ring necessary? do you feel it could be both disturbing? I like the frog not looking the camera, so i can see its back surface and pattern, also there is a nice contrast between the darker frog and the lighter hands: it is not a obvious choice and force us to focus on the frog to recognize it.
  4. the evanescence of the girl is delicate, the ladder drives you to the red dress, or maybe is the red dress that makes you walk upstairs, i cant say. anyway the girl seems to big compared to the background.

I always liked the joining of wideangles and bottom-up perspective... it is original and tells something about the photographer - which is rarely seen

    Alone

this picture recalls me the tragedy occourring just these hours in the indian ocean, it tells how much we are "alone" (altough being surrounded by many) and weak among strong and upredictable forces.

how would you read this image beyond its surface?

the silouhette of the girl in foreground is driving herself torward the shores... without fear, but with respect. is she willing to challenge the power of the shores? is her aware of the full power of that force?

the people in background are living their lives unaware (maybe) of the girl and her link to the sea, walking torward a completely different destination... are they aware too of the power of this element? are they willing to ignore the shores (and inerhently their power?) just becouse this give them a false sense of safety?

the shores are not directly seen, but who lives at sea in winter knows that a long wet beach means long powerful shores so.... even if the power of this element is not shown, can we deduct it is all there?

does the lack of visible sea power make this image less strong? does the image tells this force nevertheless?
