Why'd you pick pink/peach? The shadows across the leg are a bit busy for my taste, but the idea of rendering form using shadows is interesting... it's just a bit too much in this one. The play, against the left border with the sensual back side of the leg is really nice. I'm not sure I understand what's going on on the floor... I tend to expect hardwood floors with dancers feet... maybe it's just me ;) Nice legs, strong, controlled, disciplined!
  1. Nice execution, concept, everything... just not attracted to the color. It seems like a false color, and therefore you chose it, so it must have importance. Why greenish Brownish Yellow? Just my $.02... nice image tho. and I'll agree the slight distortion from the lense is distracting, but... technically, could be fixed in PS :) Sorry to hear about the image theft, I wish someone would steal mine :) although, I'm not doing this professionally, so I guess there's a difference there.

Although I understand what you're saying about the DOF... the whole point of getting that close (for me) is being able to play with the microscopic DOF. For me, the image would be amazingly flat if you could see the texture of the nose. On the other hand, now that you mention it, I think I'm going to go back and try reshooting this with only enough DOF to show the whole eye in focus. I think that actually might do more of what you're talking about, and might make for a more interesting image. One thing I have to point out tho, is... the reason I was really inspired to take this shot, is the reflected light on the right side of the iris, and on the under side of the upper lid. I suppose that since that's my point, I should make it better :)
  2. Thanks John, the green tinge to the sky and the orange and yello along the horizon... unfortunately is real... It's near enough to a big city, that it's polution. Who's to say tho, that the color can't be "fixed" to our liking? :D -- Again thanks for the comment.
  3. I saw this horse while driving over to a friends house, we stopped to take the picture. I have a tendency to place my subject dead center in most compositions, so I cropped it. I think the composition works MUCH better now. What do you think? Any other comments/critiques welcome. Thanks for your feedback. (I welcome constructive criticism on ALL my pictures... it's the whole reason I've posted them :) )
  4. This is the only one in the series that really works for me. I think I agree with one of the other comments, that the tent seams detract from the interest of the picture. The diagonal probably would be better if it was more "controlled" It may not have been, but it seems kind of hap-hazard. Beautiful textures here. Wonderful hinting, without over-showing. could have been a 10, but not quite there ;) do this again...
  5. I like the blues. Looks more natural to me. I say keep it. I'm sure you will get lots of blue light, like this, reflected onto the sides of buildings... especially when they are in shadow. My only nit to pick, is the barrel distortion and perspective. This image would be much stronger, geometrically, if the verticles of the building were pure verticles and straight... but that would require (I think) a Tilt and Shift lens, or a view camera to correct the perspective... My suggestion? Go rent one and take the shot again :D or correct it in Photoshop. Keeble and Shuchat rent stuff like that, and so does Gasser... Just my opinion. Fun shot though!
  6. The only reason I'm not rating the originality higher is that... well, they're landscapes and the main subject, including the horizon, are nearly always dead center. However, there are some magnificent images in this folder... Truely beautiful.
  7. looks like Gummy. Seriously tho, I like the composition. Not incredibly original (not everything has to be), but nice, comfortable. It shows enough to describe the object and share it with us... who in some cases... might think it looks like a Gummi Anenome ;)

Lovely :) Cute picture! Interesting composition. Nice how the shadow of the head is nicely inside from the border. The shorter child's head being tangent to that parallel line is a bit disturbing, but... I like the picture regardless. :)
  8. I have to agree that it looks a bit flat, but maybe it was foggy? Wonderful roots/branches. The add a really interesting motion to the picture. unfortunately they lead me, the viewer, straight into your © :) and it's the most interesting part of the picture (to me). I might, if I were you, and I know I'm not :), move the © and make it far more subtle, maybe even gray... so you can only JUST read it. Anyway... keep shooting the black and white, it's great fun !

I like the colors and something about the composition works well for this, but the bottom and top are divided almost exactly in half by the horizon. It might be stronger if you cropped down some of the sky, not a lot, but just enough to put the "hut" at about the bottom third and the horizon away from the middle. Hope this was helpful :) interesting shot
  9. Tell me what you think! I tend to enjoy playing with depth of field, and close ups of things you may or may not recognize. Please critique my other work too. I'd love feedback, negative or positive. The only thing I don't want to hear about is PS. if I use it? :) Of course I do. Sometimes lots, sometimes not at all beyond just to get the picture on the computer and resize them ;)

This shot was Color "adjusted" it originally was a greenish yellow from being improperly "white-balanced" I like the blue/violet glow to it though. Thanks in advance for constructive criticism, of this and anything else in my portfolio of shared pictures

  10. I agreed with the comments about cropping the sign, but at the same time agreed that the bottom steps were important to keep them all (the steps) grounded. I only spent a few minutes on photoshop with this, but I think it helps maintain the integrity of the rest of the picture. I really love to see places like this... very inspiring, nice shot :) Cheers!
