To improve further
1. You have to clean the slide before scanning and/or use a dust/scratch removal mechanism during/after scanning
2. Use a higher shutter speed to stop movement recording on film. ' understood that was not possible here.
3. Choose your plane of focus in such a manner that it covers most flowers
4. Play around with composition and shooting angles (above/level/below)

Care to share the technique, Joseph?!

Perhaps early dawn or late dusk would have lightened the background sky just a tad bit and would have added a nice tint as well? ' Wonder if the lights would be on then --

To my eyes, this photo has a distinct charm. I know bird photo subjects are generally bigger, but here the low reprod-ratio really works. I love the generally monochromatic nature and the burst of color in the center. Looks great, but I being a lover of off-center compositions, would do some experiments with cropping.

Breathtaking for me --

This photo makes me feel fresh and good

Joseph, this screams for a vertical framing! Wish the beard were not truncated.

Very nice, I love the composition, but I bet the lighting would be beter at some other time of the day. Looks a bit harsh to me -- shadows are detailless ...

This comes second best for me. again, I'd put the subject more towards the left or right (would amount to more/less blood).
This scene may be a bit gory for some but then those are the ones who don't see much wildlife on TV ...
Did I mention this is a very nice and original image?

Additional thought -- not sure if you did unsharp mask but a little bit more would really pop the scene

This I personally find to be the best of the lot! Wish you composed slightly off center, I'd have given you 8/8 ;)

Excellent. Perhaps shooting from a lower angle would show the wasp's left eye (right one for the viewer) fully? Right now it is obstructed by the out-of-DOF antenna.
However, perhaps the desired plane-of-focus would be lost that way --

You did it again

Brilliant colors, could benefit from a bit fill-flash but still excellent
