  1. I am planning on sending some gear to Canon to get serviced for the upcoming

    wedding season.

    I want to send a 1DMK II, 20D and 2 550EX flashes. I want the bodies cleaned

and serviced, double check the AF and metering are working properly and the

flash units- check to make sure alll circuitry is secure and connections

    working properly.

    Does anyone else do this?

    thanks

    Rob

  2. This is the sole reason I do engagement sessions. It helps break the ice so when we do shoot the wedding the couple is usually always relaxed.

What I do to get people to relax is read the body language. I see what people are comfortable with and not with and try to subtley push the envelope. I also do not put a time limit on my couples sessions. As long as they have time and I have time I take whatever is necessary to make them comfortable and relaxed and get great images.

  3. Mark U, that is exactly what I am trying to do. I am using the 550 on camera as fill, in ETTL ( I guess I do not really need it in Ettl- I could go manual) and having the PW Transmitter fire off 2 more flashes, 1 is a 550 and the other is a sunpak 555.

I was shooting entirely off camera for both 550's and found that I was limited in which directions I shot so I figured a 3rd light on camera would be perfect for just that fill (talking receptions)but found that without some type of af assist my cameras were hunting for focus (even my 1DMKII)

So that is why I came up with this. I know someone sells an hot shoe adapter that has a pc sync in the side of it and continues the hot shoe terminals to attach a flash, but they wanted $165+ for it.

So is this safe for my camera?

    Thanks again

  4. Will using a 550ex flash on the hot shoe of my 1DMKII AND a pc cord from body

to pocket wizard to fire 2 additional lights on the pocket wizrd system affect

    my camera in any way?

I need the af assist of the flash but the reliablity of the pocket wizards for

fireing off camera flashes- this seems like the easiest solution, as long as it

    works.

    Thanks for your answers.

  5. I joined back in 2003 or earlier (can't remember) back then 99% of the people shot film, and were more courteous. They would give positive critiques.

With the advent of digital and the endless supply of naked women, the critiques were harsh and inaccurate.

I don't really upload anymore, I do once in a while, but unless you have a pic of a naked girl you will either get no critiques or useless ones.

  6. Hate to jump in, but I have a question for Mark(or anyone with a 1DMKII). When using the 85 0r 35 1.4 or any other wide ap lens in a dark room, do you have problems using AF on the 1d MK II?

I saw that you noted the STe2 transmitter helping out. I unfortunately sold mine to help purchase pocket wizards and now find AF extremely slow and sometimes just non existent in low contrast scenes.

  7. It was actually the opposite for me, they were very responsive and even had my site live for 6 months before the billed me the final amount (2 years ago) now I have a seperate issue with them, my site has a virus and they keep trying to tell me it is my computer- how when the website is hosted on their server? I have not been able to get them to fix this as of yet-a couple of months, and now I see through my advertising sites that people are refered to my site but when I check the hit counter it is alot lower if not zero which tells me people are not wanting to view the site because of the virus alert or not willing to wait for the S L O W server (which is a seperate issue) I am looking for another host for my site!
  8. One thing I know- Some churches will take advantage of the sheep, as if the sheep should take care of the shephard. It is supposed to be the other way around.

A 2500 member church is doing well financially, trust me on that. I bet your pastor drives on of these too (Mercedes, BMW or Cadillac)

I would say your only fault is not speaking up front. Draw the line now and the rest will be ok.

  9. Hi all, I am curious. I want to go full time with my Photography business next

year. Since my bookings are not where they need to be I was thinking of

supplimental income. My day job currently pays the bills byt is to demanding

to try and do both, I was wondering about freelancing-

How difficult is it to get on a as a freelancer for, say a newspaper or

magazine and what do they typically pay?

    Thanks

    Rob

  10. 2006- was ok. did my first album (graphi-sheww that is a full time job in itself just dealing with them)

    2007- goals-

Either get enough bookings to go full time or enough bookings to get a part time job (40 hours) that will allow me more time for the business.

Find less expensive, quality albums for my clients.

    book at least 20 weddings

    do more family photos

  11. Thanks you guys.

Nadine. Thanks. Even though I stress that I do not do a lot of formals, I do try to accomodate my clients as it is impossible to not do them to some degree. I have plenty of images of them alone , just not in a "formal" pose, in the church. Perhaps they just arent vain people and don't an 16x20 artistic image of themselves on their walls. I now make it a rule to get B&G by themsleves at the altar. I have only done less than 20 weddings and am self taught so I learn as I go.

    Wanna be my mentor???

ANyway, I feel renting the tux and re-shooting to be appropriate, but they really do not need the flowers, nor am I willing to pay for them.

  12. I am not a traditional photographer by any means. I explain to my couples that

I do not shoot off a list, nor am I crazy about formals. I do them because

people want them done because of tradition. That being said, I shot this

couple last May. When I met her I felt like I was not the right Photographer

for her but she kind of was agreeing with everything I said (about my style

and how I shoot) SO I took a chance on her. I did the engagement session. They

were very stiff, I took them to a different location and shot some pics in a

field, again very stiff. I sent her a link to the photos and she was

satisfied, so I though ok so far so good. Approaching the wedding I was a bit

nervouse about it because something just did not sit right with me. But they

were great during the wedding and all. They even loosened up a bit. Well right

after the ceremony I got my studio lighst out (we were being rushed by the

church, they had a mass starting right after) and I quickly shot the formals.

The only thing I did not do was shoot the B&G alone at the altar (MY MISTAKE!)

well for her 16x20 she asks to have her and the groom cropped out of a group

shot. I tried but it looks way to pixelized. I told her I would re-shoot that

one image. She writes back and says I should pay for the tuxedo. I say

Absolutely no problem. She writes back, I should also pay for the hair,

makeup, flowers, boutinere too. WOOOAHH! No I don't think so. I...welll

anyway, that is a different post. Does anyone know where I can have this image

sent to be interpolated so that it is not pixelized?

    Thanks

    Rob
