    Indian Pipe

          3
A reflector opposite the sun might have brightened up the pipes a bit and a diffuser might have taken the highlight off the leading pipe's 'bowl' but this is still a great capture. It is always a treat to find these guys in the forest.

    The Boat

Good control of exposure. The sky is well defined without throwing the foreground off. The boat adds some mystery to the image and makes it stand out. Great job.

    BTW, was the boat yours?

    Ice Bush

Try overexposing when shooting snow and ice to get it closer to it true lightness. The camera adjusts to a medium grey and so darkens light things like snow when they cover a large portion of the image. Good shot just the same.

Nice capture! The top right of the subject is a little high (bright) but other than that this is a fantastic image. Great detail in the wood spokes and hub. Great choice of perspective also! A polarizer or graduated neutral density filter may have evened out the lighting on the outer hub. Great work!

Good overall composition I think. A good balance is formed by having the phone up close and in focus on the left and the open, unfocused area to the right. The yellow sign seem to draw my eye more than it should but that could just be me...

This image conveys a clear message with minimal effort. The colors are great and the lighting is well executed. Nice work cropping out the wood framing on either side of the dog. It would have distracted from the image. Great capture!

    Mushroom #9

          1

This is part of a group of images that I took trying to get a better

handle on using only natural light in a macro setting. I was

interested in the paterns created by the brown 'skin' on the surface

of the cap on this mushroom. The fine lines in the cap itself were not

easy to see without magnification but I thought that they added

interest in this particular image. Any comments or suggestions would

    be welcomed.

Good perspective. I also like that you can read teh writting on the wall behind the cart. The white part of the cart is kind of distracting but other than that, this is a great image.

    Yellow Leaf

I like the off-center vein myself. A centered vein would be too predictable and if it were evenly lighted it would not have the same effect IMHO. The addition of water really sets this apart from other leaf macros that I have seen. I would be proud of this one if I were you. BTW, your color folder was really inspiring for me. Keep on shootin'!
  1. It's more like kind of noisy. This looks like it was enlarged from a section of the overall image capture. You can clean up some of the noise but 1.2 is not enough to provide a large image. You should be able to do a small image with reasonable detail but when you enlarge it you will get this type of result. The more pixels the larger the image and the more detail that can be discerned. I would look for a camera that has the ability to do macro and has more MP so that you can crop down without having to expand the image.

Some of the rocks seems a little over sharp, especialy near its front paws but the overall image is really nice. You might have been able to exclude the rocks from the sharpening but it doesn't overly detract from the image IMHO. The lighting is great and the critter's face is really detailed. Good job!
  2. Subject: What's for dinner?

This little visitor was sitting on the poolside table one night on a

clear, fairly well lit night. I was able to get about 5 shots,

handheld, with fill flash only before he decided he didn't want to be

a celebrity and moved back up into the large umbrella where he and his

family live. I thought that this was the best of the 5. It was taken

at a very low angle to the glass table to so all of the flash light

except that which fell directly on the frog was lost. I was hoping

that the low angle would light just the frog and leave him on a black

background and it turned out as you see it here. Any comments would be

appreciated, as would technical suggestions. Thanks for taking time to

    view my image!
