Amphibian Contemplation

Onboard flash was used to light the frog a bit although I don't think he appreciated it much. He was sitting on a wavy glass table on a moderately well lit night.1/30th @ f/5.6 (55mm)

Subject: What's for dinner?

This little visitor was sitting on the poolside table one night on a

clear, fairly well lit night. I was able to get about 5 shots,

handheld, with fill flash only before he decided he didn't want to be

a celebrity and moved back up into the large umbrella where he and his

family live. I thought that this was the best of the 5. It was taken

at a very low angle to the glass table to so all of the flash light

except that which fell directly on the frog was lost. I was hoping

that the low angle would light just the frog and leave him on a black

background and it turned out as you see it here. Any comments would be

appreciated, as would technical suggestions. Thanks for taking time to

view my image!

Great shot. The detail, positioning in the frame, etc all make this one great.. I couldn't see what lens you used on your technical info?

This one is perfect. Great composition and cropping. The frog and its reflection forms a v-shape which is placed exactly where it should in the picture. Many would have placed it more th the right, but I think you made the right composition. Lighting is very good too. It doesn't look very happy and has it eyes fixed on the sky. So it is also a peculiar situation you have captured. Thanks for sharing. /Allan

Thanks to all for the comments! I took about 5 shots but started to feel bad about blinding this little guy so I stopped. He just seem to be thinking about something, likely more about that damned annoying flashing than anything else, but I couldn't pass up the shot. I used a low angle in relation to the glass table top to get the nice 'V' reflection and to throw the background into darkness.

He lives in the patio umbrella that is out of frame to the left side of the image. I find him about once or twice in any given month just sitting on the glass table top. I have other images of him eating moths while hanging out on a porch light but the background is not that great. He took off shortly after his photo session to find something to eat for dinner. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave comments!

A perfect shot. Great light, sharp, and the reflection really makes it special. Well done!

Thanks Chris. This turned out quite well for a very fast snap of this little guy. He didn't like the flash and decided to move along shortly after this exposure.
